CNNSI has a new mock draft: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/2003/draft/news/2003/04/01/mock_draft/
They say we are going to take Mathis, a safety.. I doubt we are going to take a safety with that pick but they do say that D-line is a more logical choice. Why they don't think we are going to make the logical pick is beyond me..

It is very simple! As I listened to the Howard simon show he had on Larry Felser and he had made an excellent point! He said that the only position that the Bill's should with the first pick is DT! At first I was like Larry what, do you live under a rock? Then he started to explain himself and his points were very valid! After Sam Adams and pat williams, the depth at DT is just horrible! It is an amazingly huge drop off! Dont give me the crap that Bannon is an up and comer or Edwards is good cuz they are not! We need depth at DT because If sam or pat goes down, we go down! Draft DT!

I couldn't agree with you more (or Felser) on the DT zevo

Why can't we get that quality depth in the 2nd rd? Especially since this is supposed to be such a deep DL draft.
Using the depth arguement, one could say after Teague the Bills have...er...NOBODY. But selecting depth in the first rd at C/OG seems ridiculous to some people. How can selecting a first rd DT for depth make sense then? DE I could understand, there are alot of ?s there.

Look man, the Bills are not a SB team; and thus, cannot afford to just draft for depth in the 1st round. Especially since we already have enough backup caliber players on the DL. We need starters.
Take the best available player among the DE, S, OL, and WR positions.

I agree with you guys.. I was surprised that they would think that we would go for a safety when we have other pressing needs... another site has them picking Kelsay DE from Nebraska, that would make more sense...

Mathis comes from a small school. Doesn't TD like big school players that played big school competition?
I'd rather have Haynes if he was still available.

This is amazing, but I agree with Ranger.
D-tackle depth in the draft is good. Taking a D-tackle in the first is overkill.
We have other areas that need to be addressed first.
Safety or D-end in the first.
TE or DT in the second.

You don't draft for depth in round 1.
The Bills have upgraded everywhere they needed to upgrade, and have one position they have downgraded, WR.
Doesn't it make sense to just replace Price with a guy at 23(Washington, Brant Johnson, Taylor Jacobs), and keep our offense strong?
If Sam or Pat goes down, we have a former starter in Edwards, we have a young run stopper in Bannan, we could even use Denney at DT if necessary, or even Marcus Jones. Having a former starter on the bench, no matter how bad he did as a starter, is pretty good.
We need a WR the most, followed by S, CB, and DE.
Plus like BuffaloRanger said, why can't we go DT in round 2? Especially since the DT position is so deep.

Ok this CNNSI mock draft is a joke. If they think Palmer is going to slide to 5 and that Leftwich will slide to the Steelers that is enough to kill all credibility of it.

TD will draft the best player available, NO MATTER WHAT POSITION! He's known for doing that!!!
As for Oline depth, center per say, I agree, we do need a quality back-up to Teague. BUT, I believe TD can find that in the mid-late rounds and then pick up a quality free agent after the draft or after June 1st. I'm not real worried about the Oline, I think TD will address it as needed.
As for DT in the first round, hey, if a DT is the best player available, TAKE HIM! Why not have depth at DT. Remember, the DT position is made up of guys that are HUGE and get winded QUICKLY!! It would be great to keep a fresh rotation at DT, and keep a rotation that doesn't drop off much at the talent level.
As for DE, I agree we need a good one, but there's plenty in this draft and we can get a decent one in the 2nd/3rd round. Don't forget, we have McKenzie, Jones, Irons AND SCHOBEL!!!

I like Mathis. But I've posted that enough. So I'm not going to say it again here.
But he is good though.

I will say that this is a terrible Mock. It has Chris Kelsay going to the Colts to play Middle or Outside Linebacker???
These guys are waaaay off.

It is a terrible mock, Leftwich at 27 tells us all cnn doesn't know a thing about football.
Hell, if Leftwich fell to us at 23, I would expect TD to pick him, he would most certainly be the best available.
I will never again refer to cnn for any news regarding the NFL or college football.

I'm with Kelsay playing linebacker in the NFL. He's versital and fast enough. He won't make a good DE, too small. IMO
I like him to possibly do a McGinest move and "maybe" switch from OLB to DE once in a while, depending on who's lined up at the opposing tackle position.

"Hell, if Leftwich fell to us at 23, I would expect TD to pick him, he would most certainly be the best available."
I concur. I would actually piss my pants if he fell that far.....
If I printed this mock out, the only thing I'd use it for is to WIPE MY ASS.

This mock is much better and probably more accurate:

Pro Football Weekly does a great job covering the draft. Joel Buschbaum will be missed.

The run for the bowl starts this year, whethher u think so or not! It begins this year! That is why we sign such players as sam gash! Each team that makes the playoffs is a legitimate super bowl team, so if you dont think the bills are a super bowl team then you dont think they are a playoff team!
It begins this year!

I really think that Tebucky Jones is gonna get released after june first. The pats are salary capped out and are gonna have to make room for those two # 1's. We are sitting so pretty that we don't have to fight over what is gonna be the right thing to do as to who we draft. Man no other team is in as good of shape as the Bills.

where did you get that idea?
jk of course. Its something I've been saying for awhile. You're right; he has taken only one small college player while he's been here, and that one was in the seventh round AND had already played at Georgia (Ty Robertson).
OTOH, I notice he's talking with Chaun whatsisname from West Texas A&M. Maybe he's turning. You just never know with this guy...all you know is you can't plan anything.
He's great that way.

TD has the ability to find the Andre Reeds. The kid from West Texas A&M Has the kind of qualities you would find in any big name school player. And just because you come from a big name school it doesn't make you an NFL player. Just look at all the guy's that came out of Florida and ended up a bust.

Not a good mock at all. No way we draft a saftey in the first round.

The Bills need to draft an "impact" playmaker with the first pick, regardless of position. We are in a position now truly to follow the board without slanting it towards one position over another. We do need a guy, though, that is a difference maker. Haynes, DE, Witten, TE, Peterson as a DE/DT, Woolfolk, CB, Taylor Jacobs WR or maybe even larry Johnson, RB are all possibilities that could be available at 23.

TD drafts players that produce. You won't see him take a workout warrior.
Mathis has produced.... but TD would probably rather wait until round 2 on him.
