I don't care what anyone says about the Peca for Pyatt and Connolly deal. Given the choice almost two years later, I would definately, without a shaddow of a doubt, make that deal again.
Take a look at the numbers:
Connolly 169 gp, 21g. 46a, 67pts - AGE-22
Pyatt 121gp, 23g, 23a, 46pts - AGE-21
Total- 290gp, 44g, 69a, 113pts - AGE 21.5
Peca 142pg, 38g, 64a, 102pts - AGE 29
Looking at the numbers, you may think its a wash, but age and years experience is the key. Peca is 29 and has surely peaked, the other two are still growing as players.
Pyatt showed last night that he has the potential to be one of the leagues top power forwards. Connolly, over the last 20 games has showed excellent patience and has paid closer attention to the defnesive aspects of the game.
If you look at guys like Joe Thorton or Todd Bertuzzi, they took roughly 4-5 years to develop. This is the kind of time that you have to expect with younger guys like Connolly and especially Pyatt. With a few years under their belts now, the next two seasons will tell the true winner of the trade.
Don't get me wrong, I love Peca's game. But in one year from now, no one will be able to say that we did not win that trade.
