1. Cincinnate Bengals: QB Carson Palmer
Bengals aren’t exactly in love in picking a QB with the first pick, but I can’t see them passing on a player of Palmer’s potential. Palmer is a franchise QB that could solidify that position for 10-12 years.

2. Detroit Lions: WR Charles Rogers
This is almost a no brainer if the Bengals go with Palmer. This guy has been compared to players like Owens and Moss and would be an excellent weapon for Harrington. I compare this move to Payton-Harrison draft the colts had, and we know how that turned out.

3. Houston Texans: OT Jordan Gross
The Texans have shown interest to move down, but I don’t think there are any takers. Moving up to the 3rd would cost too much for some teams, and they would have to shell out huge money. Texans also have shown interest in Suggs and Kennedy, but I think Gross would be their ideal pick to anchor the line to protect Carr for years to come.

4. Chicago Bears: DT Jimmy Kennedy
I think picking a QB here would be the other option, but I think the Bears would want to solidify the middle of their line. They are going to release either Ted Washington or Keith Traylor after June 1st, and Kennedy would be able to step in and take on that position immediately.

5. Dallas Cowboy: CB Terrance Newman
This guy is the best athlete in the draft. He is Baily, Woodson and Jammar material and would be a shutdown corner for the cowboys for years. I can’t see Parcell passing up on Newman.

6. Arizona Cardinals: DE Terrell Suggs
Even though he had a bad workout, I don’t think it will effect his position in the draft. I in particular thing workouts and the combine are useless. I think the Cardinals will make the right move and sign Suggs. Probably the best pick since Leonard Davis and Simeon Rice.

7. Minnesota Vikings: DT DeWayne Robertson
The Vikings wanted a DT last year, but the controversial trade that sent Simms to KC prevented that. They are still high on getting a powerful DT to put next to Hovan for a very powerful d-line. Robertson is very close to Kennedy, and some thing might be even better. Vikings will land a stud DT here.

8. Jaxonville Jaguars: WR Andre Johnson
The Jags are going to look for a second receiver to lineup opposite Jimmy Smith and give Burnell another weapon. The Jags’ offense was at its best when McCardell and Smith were opposite each other, and I think putting Johnson opposite Smith would make a formidable receiving corp.

9. Carolina Panthers: OT Kwami Harris
I don’t think the Panthers will go with a QB here, because I think they have faith in Jake Delhomme. I also think Delhomme is starting material and will be a good QB for them for years. So the Panthers are going to patch up their horrible line, now that they have a running threat as well. Their defense is very good, and they will go offense year with Harris.

10. Baltimore Ravens: QB Byron Leftwich
I think Leftwich will fall to the Ravens, and the Ravens will pick him up in a heartbeat. As of now they have no QB set for the season, and I don’t think they will rest the entire season on the back of Redman. There are no good QB’s left on the market, and going QB here is the sensible option. They might even trade up to get him if they feel he might go earlier.

11. Seattle Seahawks: DT Kevin Williams
The Seahawks will take the best DT here. Their run defense was horrible last year with a 32nd ranking. They need to anchor the middle with a run-stuffing DT who can also pressure the QB. Williams is that guy. This guy can upgrade the Seahawks defense immediately keeping linemen off Simmons.

12. St. Louis Rams: OT/OG Eric Steinbach
Even though they traded for Kyle Turley, I think having Kurt Warner and Marshall Faulk as the centerpiece of their offense, the rams will look to make their o-line significantly better. There is also no guarantee Pace will be back with his unreasonable contract demands. Look for the rams to secure their line and get some negotiating leverage with Pace by picking Steinbach.

13. New York Jets: DT Jonathan Sullivan
Josh Evans really came into his own last year, and the Jets will look to secure the middle of their line seeing how the division is heading down a run-first game plan. Sullivan is a great DT and would greatly help the Jets in the run-stuffing power.

14. New England Patriots: DT William Joseph
The Patriots run defense was as bad as ours and look for them to patch up the middle of their line with this pick. Joseph will greatly help them with improving their run-defense now that they have a pass-rushing threat in Colvin.

15. San Diego Chargers: CB Marcus Trufant
The Chargers don’t look to resign Alex Molden, and picking up Trufant would solidify their CB position for a long time, especially after they picked up Jammer last year. They might go LB here, but I think their biggest need will be at CB since their pass defense wasn’t the best.

16. Kansas City Chiefs: DE Jerome McDougle
The Chiefs are in desperate need of a pass-rushing DE. They went after Douglas to no avail, and now they are trying to get Holliday, which I doubt will happen. They will look to the draft to pick up a DE. Look for McDougle to go here.
17. New Orleans Saints: LB Boss Bailey
Boss Baily is a beast of a linebacker. He runs a 4.3 40, which is unheard of for a LB. He will boost the Saints defense tremendously. I think the Saints would pick him here. Other options might be E.J Henderson.

18. New Orleans Saints: CB Andre Woolfolk
I think the Saints will address their next need here and pick Woolfolk. Woolfolk would be a nice addition to the Saints pass defense, which was sup-bar last year, and would give them a shut-down CB for years.

19. New England Patriots: LB E.J Henderson
Like I’ve said before, if the Patriots want to come out winners in this draft, they have to take a DT and a LB with their picks. Picking a DT with the 14th pick will allow them to further supplement their run-defense by taking Henderson. Vrabel, Johnson and Phifer are getting up in age, and are also injury prone. Henderson will be a nice pick here.

20. Denver Broncos: TE Jason Witten
This guy is a Shockey type player, and the Broncos know that Sharp only has another year left in him, and drafting Witten would secure their TE spot for a long time. They might also go CB here, but I don’t think they will pass on Witten.

21. Cleveland Browns: OT George Foster
Browns need help at both Tackle and at the CB position, but I think the Browns will opt to go with Foster. He still has some work to do and is far from a finished product, but has great potential.

22. New York Jets: WR Kelley Washington
Losing Coles was a huge loss for the Jets, but they can make up for that by picking Washington who IMO is the 3rd best WR in the draft. Putting him with Moss and Chrebet will be a good pick and will keep Pennington going.

23. Buffalo Bills: DE Michael Haynes
Getting Posey, Spikes and Adams automatically makes the Bills defense so much better. They have great depth at DE, but no clear cut starter other than Schobel. Haynes would be a great pickup and he could step in immediately to help out. If he is beat out by Jones, then he will add great depth and would learn and be ready to take over in a year or so.

24. Indianapolis Colts: LB Terry Pierce
He is a big, strong LB that will fit nicely in Dungy’s system, and could step in immediately now that Peterson has left via free agency.

25. New York Giants: DT Kenny Peterson
The Giants need an anchor in the middle that can stuff the run and can offer some pass-rushing help. Peterson would be a great pick to line up in the middle with Strahan on the outside.

26. San Francisco 49ers: DT Ty Warren
With their DT’s getting a bit old and the departure of Dana Stubblefield, a DT here would be the best option. Warren is as good as any DT in this draft, but inconsistency will drop him this low. But this guy has great power and speed and great potential.

27. Pittsburg Steelers: S Mike Doss
Their type of defense requires a hard-hitting safety that can also cover. Mike Doss is that safety. The Steelers are most likely going to let Lee Flowers go, and Mike Doss would be an awesome replacement.

28. Tennessee Titans: WR Tyler Jacobs
They need receive help bad now that they have lost Dyson. They wanted to get a big name receiver in free agency, and were one of the teams lobbying Price for his services. Jacobs could lineup opposite Mason and give McNair a great receiving corp.

29. Green Bay Packers: QB Kyle Boller
This would be the best pick the packers could make. Brett Favre is gonna be around for only a couple of more years max and after her leaves they will need someone to step in and be the franchise QB. This would be an ideal situation for Boller. He could serve as backup to one of the best QB in NFL history and learn from the best, so when its his time he’s ready to step in.

30. Philadelphia Eagles: DE Chris Kelsey
After losing Douglas and probably not being able to pick up KGB, they need a young DE threat, and Kelsey can be a very good replacement.

31. Oakland Raiders: C Jeff Faine
This guy is the best Center in the draft and will be a very good player for years to come. A lot of people have compared him to Kevin Mawae. Oakland will most likely part ways with Robbins, and Faine would be able to come in and start immediately.

32. Oakland Raiders: DE Dewayne White
Raiders took a blow to their line with the departure of Sam Adams and Regan Upshaw. Trace Armstrong is also getting old and is battling some injuries. Dewayne White can step in and help the raiders rebuild their defense.

Excellent job!

I like a lot of your picks- but not all, of course- and think you did a lot of work on it!!!

Sorry, theirs no way Leftwich makes it past Chicago and Dallas. But I love the Haynes pick. I also would look at Rien Long. An interior pass rusher, something we don't have.

I agree, good post CA! It was fun to read through your picks and think about the justifications behind each of them.

hey Nuke, whats up....which ones do you not agree with other than the leftwich pick. Just curious...want to get some other view points.

On the leftwich pick. I don't see Chicago or Dallas picking him for some reason. But the draft is very unpredictable...

Leftwich has been dropping in the minds of some. One potential problem: Leftwich NEVER lines up under center. He is ALWAYS in the shotgun formation. Since he is known not to be fleet footed, there is real and justified concern hat he could have major footwork problems when he has to line up under center in the pros. I don't think a team will be too excited about the possibility of having to rewrite their play book so Leftwich can stay in the shotgun.

check out the mock I threw up on Raider fans mock draft thread. I don't see Boller making it to 29. I also think Larry Johnson's strong performance at Nittany Lion day will push him into the first round. I think Cincy will try to trade down, fail and go defense. You could be right on Carolina but IMO they need to go with Leftwich there- the upside is too great to pass on for a good not great OT. I like where you have Suggs going. He was a consensus top 3 pick pre-workout. Your take on the Pats makes good sense. Corners and QB's tend to go up in value on draft day. Woolfolk may go earlier and you left out Wethersby entirely. Nice job overall.:Cool2:

Yeah, Bailey won't slip that far. Insider.com came out with their revised top 200 draft prospect list today and Bailey has propelled all the way up to the 11th ranked player. Interesting how the combine and personal workouts can help/hurt a player. On the flip side Rien Long, who was in the top 15 in January, has dropped all the way to 68th. Jeff Faine has dropped to 76th. Not to say this is where these guys will actually go, but it does make those clamoring for us to take Faine at 23 look stupid. He could be there at 48, should we decide to go that way. My guess is it will be DE or CB round 1, DE/DT or S/CB round 2 unless something unusual breaks at another position, which is quite possible.

looks good.. i think that terry pierce and his HORRIBLE 40 times drop him into the 2nd round though..

and i cant see pitt taking a guy with coverage questions, being that they had major coverage issues with flowers last year.. just imho.

Yeah, even though Boss Baily is ranked high, teams will draft upon need, and I don't see anybody taking Baily in the top 15.

Workouts and Combine are just that. How many players do well in workouts and turn out as busts? A lot. How many players stuggle in workouts and combines and turn out to be studes? A lot. Coaches and GM know this and won't make too much of the workouts. The most important part of the combine I think is the personal interviews. I think the Colts will take a LB and Pierce is the best one there, and is pretty good pick at 24.

I'd flip that around, too, CA...how many times do "workout warriors" make the huge jump to round 1? Mamula, Flowers, Archuleta (one that worked) come to mind quickly.

Opinions are pretty divided on Pierce. He's one I missed in college but they say he's a tackling machine and has good speed where it's needed.

I just don't see him fitting into the Dungy/Tampa Bay kind of defense- Levon Kirkland-size players just don't seem a good fit. Could be wrong of course.

I just can't see Colts picking anything other than a Linebacker. Although they need some secondary help. Weathersby can go to any of the teams in the 20 range. Weathersby could be an option for Cleveland, Bills, and Packers.

hmm, I think you stand alone on your opinion there dank, but then this mock doesn't compare to recent mocks, since the age...but read the comments. obviosly I did an horrible job.

so even though most people don't agree 100%, as it happens with all mocks, they agree on some levels. So do you make of these members dank? If I am so inaccurate and so uneducated in the drat and football.
