I say best available athlete.....DE, Safety, RB, or my choice A GREAT TIGHT END...if there is one in this draft!!!!

Overall I say tight end or DE.
Definetly a WR or Corner in the 2nd round
3rd round a safety

Alright guys...give me your thoughts and please leave out mixum is an idiot !

Best player available thats not O-line.

We draft the best DE available now that we have Adams and don't necessarily need to draft a stud DT to start immediatly....no Pace because he wants an obscene amount of money. Then we go WR, then CB, then TE

ok, SCREW ORLANDO PACE!! he's a pseudo pro-bowler who's becoming vastly overpriced for the number of games he actually plays.

Dewayne White from Louisville at #23. or McDougle if white's not there. or Shurron Pierson from South Florida if White and McDougle are gone.

William Joseph in the second.

NO RUNNING BACKS BEFORE THE 4TH ROUND PLEASE!!!!

if they really want to get a quality pick for a backup RB, I bet Lee Suggs will be around in the 4th.

No way we go Tight end, if we wanteda tight end inthe first, we would have just kept JR, who we didn't use last eyar.

The way Mixum sounds, we better use our entire draft on kickers, so we can get a guy to beat out Lindell... :)

KICKER.....WOOOOOOOOOOO

No but maybe a WE to replace Price Or SOLID TE

Again, Dave Moore is the TE... and Shaw is more than adequate at the WR position...

In reality, I see the Bills trading this pick, and picking up 2-3 picks for it.

Williams Joseph will not fall down to our 2nd pick. I think we should go with DE is the first round. Perhaps Haynes or McDougle. With 2nd round I would pick either best Saftey or TE. I would love to have Witten, but I doubt he'll fall to our 2nd pick, but I wouldn't might Dallas Clark either.

In any other case, we can wait to see what TE are available in the 3rd or 4th.

Dave Moore is good, but he is more of a blocker than a catcher. I would like to see us bring in Witten or Clark to catch some balls. You can relate it a bit to Shockey/Campbell. Shockey caught everything in site and Campbell was great in run-blocking.

This also depends on how well TD think Mark Campbell will come alone. And we still have a project in Brady McDonnell. He must have been catching on or showing something to get a roster spot last year and in which TD would feel comfortable enough to let JR go without even trying to restructure his deal.

Mike Doss - Depth for SS - maybe push Coy for the starting job

Michael haynes, DE penn state 6'3" 275

we need some explosiveness at the end, I love schoebel but I am not sold that marcus jones will be 100%, our DT's may be the best tandem in the league, brings back nice memories when we had big pat and big ted stuffing the run.

Unless a few early to mid first rounders fall, I am starting to think we should go corner in the 1st round. I really like Weathersby. I'm not saying this because I expect Winfield to be gone next year. I want him here for his whole carrier and fully ecpect it to happen. But in today's game you need as many quality CB's as you can get. Adding Weathersby would give us two great corners, 1 decent/good corner (Thomas) and then Weathersby who has Nate Clements upside.

And if anyone doubts how important CB's are today, just look at the Eagles and what they did in the draft last year. WIth already one of the best secondaries in the leauge. They spent their 1st 3 picks on the secondary.

That is quite possiable and I would not be upset with that! However still think TD will use this pick to get a quality player Chris Kelsey or Micheal Haynes would both be good picks Taylor Jacobs would be a great pick mike Doss comes to mind also a good pick would be LB E.J. Henderson!

Any one of these players would do!

D-Roc - I like the idea of a CB also, but I am not as sold on Weathersby. If he were available in the 2nd, fine, but I don't think that he is 1st round value. (Only based on the draft reports I have read - I've never even seen him play).

March 25th, 2003, 6:22:07 AM
You don't need extra picks. You need quality. You have plenty of cap to buy veteran depth. There should be real value left at #23 because other teams will be drafting for offensive needs (i.e., QB and OLine) and pushing defensive talent down.

March 25th, 2003, 6:43:19 AM
Untill the Adams signing, I was saying Defensive Tackle to help out Williams and get more single blocking on the DE. We have 1 good DE (Schoebel) and 4 potential DE (Jones, McKenzie, Irons and Denney)- but none of these is proven to be someone who will be feared by the opponents. I say, if Hayes or McDougle are there, grab them; if not trade down in the first round and get a LB or 3rd CB (whomever looks better), then get a future starting DT in the second round (or a backup running back or a safety or ......)

We could go any of the following ways.

DE - Chris Kelsay

The only problem with this is that we have 9 DL already on the roster.

March 25th, 2003, 9:47:25 AM
I'm with you, 68. I think the Bills would love to have McDougle but pass rushers are in great demand and I do not think McDougle will be there at #23. I was silently hoping that Haynes would be there. He had a bad combine, ran a 4.8. But then he shows up at the Penn State Pro Day and runs a 4.6. Now I'm beginning to think both may be gone when we pick.

What do we do? If both DE are gone, DT Kenny Peterson may slide to Buffalo. I see the very quick Peterson as being a lot like Chris Hovan in Minnesota; a very strong, very quick disruptor.

There are only 3 possibilities the way I see it in round 1.

1) Draft a good DE or Safety in round 1

2) Trade for extra picks

3) A player that TD is just salivating over (if there is one)

Round 2

1) Best available

That is were we are headed.

None of the DE's on the roster made the team yet. I wouldn't worry about how many are on the roster now. Training camp will sort them out. Just because they signed Jones and Mckenzie doesn't mean they automatically made it. The Bills cut bigger names than these guys.

Unless one of the top ten slip to 23, I say stick with the DE, DT for the pick.

Defensive backfield may not be as bad as it seems. With a line geared towards stopping the run, and better overall Linebackers, the Safties won't have to worry as much about run coverage. They can concentrate on reading the offense more, which is tough enough for a rookie without having to cover for a weak front seven.

"With the 23rd pick in the draft, the Buffalo Bills select: Rashean Mathis, S/CB, Bethune - Cookman."

This guy's gonna be a star in the NFL. Projected to be a S at the Pro level. Excellent coverage skills and a sure tackler. Very fast too.

Could be our starting FS out of camp, with Reese as his backup, moving PP to backup Wire at SS. Could even be the 3rd corner in the Nickle.

If andre johnson from miami slips down to the #23 slot, i say we take him. Is there a TE in the draft that will make an impact like shocky?

askabry
March 25th, 2003, 12:15:57 PM
On Rashean Mathis: Tom has never selected- in his tenure with Buffalo, anyways- a player from a college like Bethune Cookman.

On Andre Johnson: Yeah. And tell you what, if Terrell Suggs falls to 23, we should pick him to. (Sorry, that was unnecessary.)

TE for an impact: No Shockey, but Jason Witten is expected to be a first rounder.

naeliac
March 25th, 2003, 12:24:55 PM
The great thing is, we don't have any glaring need, and you just know some outstanding player is going to fall. This means that TD will just be able to scoop up a potential impact player easily, perhaps in the 2 rounds.

I am hoping for a very good S or a passrushing DE.

I'd say a DE. We'd end up having 5 DE's and 4 DT's on the roster, but I think that's not unusual for a 4-3 team. This is based both on need and how the draft is shaping up. We'll probably see a run on DT's in the mid first round and a run on DE's in the later part.

Granted that even the scouting department hasn't finalized the draft board, but my gut feeling is that after these DE's go off the board they'll be a drop-off in talent. All drafts have these drop-off points and I think it'll be a few picks after ours. For that reason I don't see us trading down.

A couple years ago, I said dont be surprised to see the Bills take a RB early in the draft...Travis Henry

Last year I said dont be surprised if we take a wr with our 2nd rd pick (people said no way, your crazy, etc etc)...Josh Reed

Now I am not sure for this year yet but guys I can see us taking...

A wr...Kelly Washington - big time attitude problem but big time talent and we have enough vets to keep this guy in check.

A rb...Larry Johnson - you need 2 RB's. Ask ATL, DEN, NO, BALT, etc etc. Sammy Morris will not cut it.

A S...Mike Doss - yes we have Wire and yes Wire is still growing but Doss will bring at least a Stud Special Teamer. This Bills team will contend this year and they need all 3 phases to contribute. Doss can block kicks, can tackle and can do his job. Not to mention he will compete for starting SS.

A CB...not sure who

and obviously a DE or DT

just some thoughts off the cuff...

For all of us DIE HARD BILLS fans this might seem like a tough question but I feel they should take the BEST Athlete available. We need to draft a PLAYMAKER ex. Randell El. The Defense now is pretty much strait! The first round need to be focus on someone who can make plays. The Defence hurted us in the begining of the season but out of the last 8 games 5 of those games our HIGH Power Offence fail to put up at least 20 points. One of those games We didn't score anything (GreenBay). I feel we need to go after a big time offence of playmaker.

holla back!!!

This year we won't need to depend on the offense as much. We have playmakers. But if you feel the need to draft one look at

CB is the most boring position for any team to draft but it is the best choice most of time. You can never have enough good CB.

diruss18
March 26th, 2003, 9:44:20 AM
I wouldn't think the Bills should would pick a TE in the first round since Kevin Gilbride does not use the TE in the offense as much as he should.

Since the signing of Adams, the Bills have the luxury of signing the best athelete on the board instead of filling a need position.
I have three positions I think the Bills should look at in regards to the 1st round.

First, I would like to see the Bills go after a WR a burner who will stretch the defense and allow Moulds & Reed to work underneath.

Second, go after a CB. I think the Chris Watson experiment is over. At least I hope it is. Depth a CB is always good. Especially if they can add KR & PR support.

Third, A DE not in the Erik Flowers mode either. If there is a quality pass rushing DE around why not.

However, I have a feeling TD will trade down to get additional later round picks. He holds the cards.

angneli
March 26th, 2003, 10:45:26 AM
why would we trade down? We need to take advantage of having a first round pick.

"CB is the most boring position for any team to draft but it is the best choice most of time. You can never have enough good CB."

yeah look at the Bills recent history of 1st round CBs: Burris, T.Smith, Winfield, Clements...

i would still like the bills to find someone who could be a Pass Rushing OLB, someone who can drop down if needed, but at this point i also agree with just taking the best athlete available...

I couldn't agree more! It has the be the #1 priority on the team! Cut Lindell now! He hasn't made a single kick yet! Seth Marler of Tulane should be there in the 3rd or 4th round but we can't risk it! Draft him in the 1st! Also resign Hollis and trade for Mike Vanderjagt so we can have some quality depth at this most crucial position.:3stooges:

IMHO, I expect TD to take the best football player available, not necessarily the best athlete ... and this year, at the #23 pick, it'll probably be a defensive player that slipped a few spots. Who that'll be, I have no clue ... but I'm gonna go w/ Figurita's pick: DT/DE, Kenny Peterson!
