like many of you i have been cruising the draft sits and pondering possibilities. and as i was reading my copy of tsn'd draft reports it hit me . . . we can draft whomever the hell we want!
no the team is not perfect and you have to play the games, but for th efirst time in years i was not looking through the guides to find saviors or starters. i was looking for the reasons every gm wishes he could draft.
1. for the best player available (because every year teams reach because of need and excellent players fall through)
2. for depth (let's be honest here are no sure things in the draft. none of these guys have even played in an nfl practice)
3. long range replacement for aging veterans (rueben brown) - being thrown into the fire works for some but having a year or two to work with a mentor is ideal.
tom d. and tom m. have a reputation for finding talent and the adams' signing allows them to fully use their skills. sure we have weaknesses - every team does. and we have needs. but none of them are so compelling that we cannot be patient and select the best players available. do not forget we still have money left for free agency and june 1st cuts always produce some surprises. do i trust blindly in tom D? no. he is human and he makes mistakes. but there is no one else in football today i would rather have running my beloved bills than the front office we have now.
