1. Cincinnati Bengals (2-14)- Carson Palmer QB USC- well they still need a QB and they think he is the best one out there even though I disagree
2. Detroit Lions (3-13)- Charles Rogers WR Mich St- Even if Andre Johnson has jumped Rogers the Lions would still pick Rogers as it would sell more tickets as well.
3. Houston Texans (4-12)- Terell Suggs DE/LB Arizona State- Suggs moves to LB in this system. He is the speed rusher that will make them quickly forget about new Bill Jeff Posey. Jordan Gross is another possibility
4. Chicago Bears (4-12)- Jimmy Kennedy DT Penn St- The bears are looking for the best defensive prospect with the signing of Kordell. With Suggs off the board they go for Kennedy a big run stuffing tackle to replace Washington or Traylor
5. Dallas Cowboys (5-11)- Terrence Newman CB Kansas State- The cowboys defense has been decent the past couple of years but their corners have been atrocious and even though Parcells likes big players I think this player will be chosen by default. Jordan Gross is a possibility
6. Arizona Cardinals (5-11)- Andre Johnson WR Miami- With the signing of Jeff Blake it solves a short term answer and they desperately need to replace David Boston and Johnson could step in and be like him.
7. Minnesota Vikings (6-10)- Dewayne Robertson DT Kentucky- Minnesota has been talking for awhile about getting a DT next to Chris Hovan. Robertson has the speed and athleticism to be that guy. Marcus Trufant is a possibility.
8. Baltimore Ravens(7-9)(from Jacksonville)-Byron Leftwich QB Marshall- Baltimore makes the trade with Jacksonville just in case Carolina is thinking about taking Leftwich even though they have Delhomme.
9. Carolina Panthers (7-9)- William Joseph DT Miami- The panther desperately need to get their defensive line straight and started with peppers and keep it up with the solid Joseph.
10. Jacksonville(7-9)(from Baltimore)- Jordan Gross OT Utah- The Jaguars stated they would take the Best available no matter what the position and Gross is exactly that right now and adds very good bulk to go opposite of Maurice Williams
11. x-Seattle Seahawks (7-9)- Jonathan Sullivan DT Georgia- With the defensive options dwindling in FA the seahawks turn these needs towards the draft and get a massive tackle to replace either Eaton or Randle next year.
12. St. Louis Rams (7-9)- Boss Bailey LB Georgia- St.Louis shocks everyone and takes Bailey the speedy athletic LB. With the trade of Turley they no longer have the need for Tackle so the Rams go to the next option which is LB.
13. New York Jets(9-7)(from Washington)- Eric Steinbach OG Iowa- Steinbach is a mauler at the Guard position and with the lose of Randy Thomas this would be a smart pick. DT would have been a possibility a year ago but Josh Evans filled that void.
14. a-New England Patriots (8-8)- Kevin Williams DT OSU- The patriots have wanted to get a guy to go next to Richard Seymour and get that last of the upper tier Defensive tackles.
15. San Diego Chargers (8-8)- Marcus Trufant CB Washington State- With the release of Molden and Harrison it seems as though the Chargers are revamping their secondary and Trufant would go nicely with McNeil or Jammer or be the nickle back.
16. Kansas City Chiefs (8-8)- Michael Haynes DE Penn ST- Sorry Bills fans but after that workout in Happy Valley no chance Buffalo gets this guy. KC has been coveting DE's and he is now the best of the bunch left
17. New Orleans Saints (9-7)- Andre Woolfork CB Oklahoma- Though his stock has slipped some he still has the capability of becoming a shut down corner and the Saints could use one.
18. b-New Orleans Saints (9-7)-Ty Warren DT Texas A and M- This was a hard choice to choose from but with the impending release of Norman Hand and Grady Jackson the Saints could use a DT with the capability of clogging up some lanes
19. New England Patriots (9-7)- E.J Henderson LB Maryland- With the lack of good LB's in the draft the patriots fill the need with probably the only other LB worth taking in round 1 besides Bailey.
20. Denver Broncos (9-7)- Rien Long DT Washington State- Though some scouts say he isn't worth taking in round 1 the Broncos have a need and reach a little to take the mammoth Long.
21. Cleveland Browns (9-7)- Kwame Harris OT Stanford- Wow are the Browns happy they thought they would have to settle for George Foster but arguably the best OT falls in their lap at 21 and that Browns couldn't be happier.
22. New York Jets (9-7)- Taylor Jacobs WR Florida- Some feel he should go higher and some feel he should go lower but the Jets need a WR now and Jacobs fits the bill and could start right away.
23. Green Bay(12-4)(from Atlanta via/ Buffalo)- Kyle Boller QB Cal- The packers fall in love with this QB prospect and trade up in the draft with Buffalo. We all know Donahoe loves trading down and no one is worth taking at this point at DT
24. Indianapolis Colts (10-6)- Dennis Weathersby CB Oregon State- The colts take Weathersby who has been flying up charts of late and is pushing Woolfork for the number 3 corner taken sport
25. New York Giants (10-6)- Kelley Washington WR Tennessee- The Giants now need a WR to go opposite of Toomer and get the last receiver to be taken in round one and get a pretty good one in Washington.
26. San Francisco 49ers (10-6)- George Foster OT Georgia- The niners line is as old as they come and want to get younger. Foster has the potential to be better then both Harris and Gross but has had some injuries in his college career
27. Pittsburgh Steelers (10-6)- Troy Polamalu SS USC- Yes most people think that it will be Doss but not here. Polamalu is clearly the best SS in the draft now and Doss is now #2.
28. Tennessee Titans (11-5)- Vince Manuwai OG Hawaii- A raw prospect who could slip into the lower end of round one. This guy has the potential to be a Bruce Matthews type guard and that is why the Titans like him
29. Buffalo Bills(8-8)(From Green Bay)- Kenny Peterson DE/DT Ohio State- The bills have some options with this pick could go peterson, mcdougle, kelsay are all still available. Knowing a team didn't need a DT from 23-29 Donahoe makes this trade and selects peterson 29
30. Philadelphia Eagles (12-4)- Jerome McDougle DE Miami- With the loss of Douglas the Eagles replace him with the young McDougle who has slipped quite a bit because he is undersized.
31. Oakland Raiders (11-5)- Mike Doss SS Ohio State- The Raiders desperately need a safety and Doss is still there so they snatch him up with this pick. His coverage skills need work.
32. c-Oakland Raiders (12-4)- Rex Grossman QB Florida- Rich Gannon isn't getting any younger and I dont think the Raiders are sold on Marques Tuiasospo(whatever) and take this young strong armed QB to be their heir apparent.

that is some excellent work there bud..

i think you are a good deal off with the warren pick. he will be there in the second round.. bar a major run on dt.. but no way do i see peterson there over warren.

cant see doss going in the first round either.. i think the ND center has a better chance there.

that is alot of work though. nice job.. i love seeing fans opinions.

what do you see buffalo getting in return for trading down?

i like what you did. Raiders taking Doss is great. Grossman im not sure about. The raiders really like Tuisosopo. He learns everyhting from gannon. But i really like that doss pick if the raiders could get him great. But i see him going over Polumula.

Good work. I do think Warren is a reach at 18. He's climbing and unlike Tatonka I think he may go in round one, but he hasn't risen that far yet in the minds of most.

disagree straight off...

Bengals take Terrance Newman
Move combines with James to complete fast Bengal D. Commitment already there to Kitna.
Lions take Charles Rogers
Most telegraphed punch since we invaded Iraq.
Texans take Suggs
Perfect fit for 3-4 D.
Bears take Jimmy Kennedy
Drop Traylor or Washington if offseason. Both are 33+.
Cowboys take Carson Palmer
Hutchinson, Carter not the answer. 'Boys hoping for Warren in rd 2.
Cards take Andre Johnson
Replaces Boston; plenty of faith in Josh McCown.
Vikes take DeWayne Robertson
The perfect fit, combines with Hovan. Presumes Vikes skip on Adams, otherwise this pick goes to Trufant.
Jaguars take Marcus Trufant
Jack Del Rio continues to build defense.
Ravens take Kyle Boller
Chris Redman not the answer.
Seahawks take William Joseph
The preferred pick would have been Trufant.
Rams take Boss Bailey
Jordan Gross becomes the alternate choice. However, Bailey completes linebacker corps and upgrades defensive speed.
Jets take Kevin Williams
Torn between Williams and WR Washington; figures a WR will be there later.
Patriots take Jordan Gross
Belichek makes wise choice. Alternate choice, Johnathan Sullivan
Chargers take E.J. Henderson
Replacement of Junior takes the field.
Saints take Byron Leftwich
It worked with Deuce.
Saints take Johnathan Sullivan
Replaces Norman Hand as run stopper. Alternate thought: Haynes
Patriots take Kenny Peterson
The complement to Seymour;an ideal Belichek player, insofar as he is flexible to play multiple positions, schemes.
Broncos take Eric Steinbach
A value choice, and a fine player. Tough choice to let Haynes pass
Browns take Terry Pierce
Could be a reach here; but a superior tackler to play MLB.
Jets take Taylor Jacobs
Washington would be considered, but age and his role in offense leads them to take the most NFL ready WR available.
Bills take Kwame Harris
Harris is a top ten talent, and TD cannot miss on this one. Several WRs will be available in round two, plus speedy TEs.
Colts take Michael Haynes
The combination of Haynes and Freeney already makes one weak.
Giants take Kelley Washington
Giants plan to combine Washington with Toomer, Shockey and Barber for a nightmarish offense.
49ers take Jerome McDougle
Two speedy DEs, combining the Miami end w/Andre Carter.
Steelers take Mike Doss
And in one year, in their system, becomes an All-Pro. An impact player in the midst of impact players.
Titans take Larry Johnson
They might consider his teammate, Bryant Johnson, but that would be a reach here and figure to find the WR for McNair later.
Packers take Rex Grossman
Had they felt it necessary, they'd have moved up for this. In fact, they might consider moving up for Leftwich, if he falls as far as I project.
Eagles take Chris Kelsey
Looking to replace Hugh Douglas; and falling short. They should have kept the old warrior.
Raiders take Rein Long
The defensive line is decimated, and Long covers some ills. He'll play RDE for the Raiders.
Raiders take Ty Warren
As above. The hope is that Robbins returns, and Shaw can play #2 cover.

ask, stick to your day job. Leftwich is a S T U D stud! He won't fall that low! He's much better than Boller and IMO Palmer (both of whom have always had talent and FINALLY put it together in teh last season... make them risky picks IMO. Leftwich has passed all physicals an has the best arm of the group).

LOL...

I'll stick to my day job...and by my predictions. Boller will go before Leftwich, and Boller and Palmer will go top ten. I don't think any one of those are far off, and not really that far off what gonzo predicted.

But I'll tell you all what. I'm willing to take on all comers that think the Carson Palmer is going #1. Bring it...make your bet.

I think you've made an interesting mock draft that may be at least as accurate as many I've seen. I do hope that you are incorrect about the Bills taking Peterson. I'm in the old school, Bill Parcells camp on D-Linemen. Give me massive tackles and speedy ends. Peterson is your classic tweener; what some would call flexible I call a poor fit at both DT and DE. It's like a 6-6 power forward (unless Peterson turns out to be an NFL version of Charles Barkley) it wouldn't be my choice.

For everybody shot-in-the-a$$ with Carson Palmer, you ought to take a second look at this guy. He basically made his whole college career on eight games or so.

This is the single most overrated QB ever to swindle his way into the top ten, much less top five. He'll fall and as a result the draft will get warped.

Mouldsie
March 23rd, 2003, 9:07:55 PM
I agree. Leftwich is the better choice, but w/ all the hype he'll still go in the top 5.

Boller is the same way, made his rep in a few games and a 50 yard throw on his knees.

Palmer single most swindler? Ever hear of Ryan Leaf?

askabry
March 23rd, 2003, 10:12:29 PM
couple of things.

first, sorry for the visual there, Tatonka...

second, Ryan Leaf turned out to be a bum from the mental maturity level. His arm, size, strength or the length of his career were right there.

And of course, as usual I overstated. There's a bunch of loser QBs that swindled their way into the top five.

I like Faine over Harris. Faine gives more depth at center and guard.

I'm not so sure about the proposed draft. You seem to have it top-loaded with the better DT. I think McDougle would be the best fit for the present (post Adam signing) needs, and I doubt that he will last until #23, let alone almost falling out of the first round. I would say if all the DL & McDougle are gone at #23, then the trading down would make sense. But I wouldn't go for Petersen with a round1 pick. He is a tweaner & appears to have put on 20 pounds between the college playing season and the combines. Also playing for a powerhouse national champion, may have inflated his apparent worth. I would rather draft later round (2nd or 3rd round) a legimate big body DT who was the star lineman on a 0.500 college team, but still made all-conference. Then use the traded-down 1st rounder on something that will make us tear our hair out for a day, (RB, TE, DB, LB depth), until we see this as our starting RT,TE,DB,LS later in the year or an all-pro type next year.

just a note on anybody seeing the Bengals going QB at #1 overall. Keep in mind everyone in the NFL took notes of the Butler job two years ago.

Lewis will get his QB; Simms or Ragone, with the 33rd pick in the draft.

Agree- I would very concerned with the similarities Palmer has to Rob Johnson.
