View Full Version : Bills COULD trade down from #23

I did a little thinking on this one... Now, don't rip me apart, but, if the cards fall right in the draft, I think the Bills should trade down, pick up an extra pick and still get a first round pick.

The team I trade with?? The Indianapolis Colts...

Yes, I know, they pick #24, one slot below us... Here's the catch:

From the research I did regarding the Colts and their draft ( I'm the BBI GM for the Colts... :) ) and living in Indiana, they are looking VERY hard, and I mean VERY, VERY hard at Boss Bailey. If he's there at #23, I trade the pick to the Colts, get their #24 and a late round pick (5th to 7th round, pending on what the Colts would part with), and let them have Bailey.

Yeah, I know, a lot of you want Bailey for the Bills... But, look at the facts here:

The Bills just signed 2 OLB, who are likely gonna be starters (Spikes for sure) for at least the next 4 seasons. The Colts, who just lost their best OLB, are gonna be desperate for an OLB. The Bills, as of now, have a glaring need at DT, but, assuming that is filled, they have no real "need" as a starter on either side of the ball (except kicker).

So, the Bills move one slot down, gain a later round pick, and still get the player they would pick at #23. Now, they have gotten 2 picks for Peerless, while filling all the defensive holes before even picking. Even if they don't get a DT, the same DT that they would pick at #23 will be there at #24, because the Colts WILL take Bailey, if given the option.

Like I said, I know that there are Boss Bailey lovers out there, and, while I agree that he's a good player, where would he fit in on the Bills roster as is? He really would be a Special Teamer and a backup, while, if we needed a DT, the player we got at #24 would likely be competing for a starting job, plus, we'd have that extra pick to use...

It sounds like something Donahoe would do to me.

makes sense, except that it could not be done until we are on the clock

Why would the Colts want to trade up one slot to grab a player they're almost certain we won't take because of our signing of Posey and Spikes?

I'm a little confused....:?:

gonzo is right on that if the bills just signed 2 olb's they would not need to trade. Unless the bills said that there are other teams that want to get him. So basicly lie to the colts.

i would rather see the bills trade up to like 13 or 14th pick by giving up are 2nd rounder. then even if we do sign adams i would draft the DT sullivan from Georgia (i like this guy a lot) With the rotation of DTs nowadays 3 solid ones could make us impossible to run on. Besides we don't have that many glaring needs besides a 3rd WR which we probably could sign a FA.

When we sign Adams, we r looking for the best player available! If Boss is there which I believe he will be you take him!

Why so he can sit behind Takeo and Posey? I agree you take best player available that fits any one of your needs. Not a guy that won' t get much chance to play. D-line, DBs, WRs i say yeah because you have to use 3, 4 , or even 5 guys for each one of those positions, so a rookie would see some time but not a linebacker.

One flaw about swapping picks with with the Colts. We know they need a LB, they know we don't, but need a defensive lineman. The sort of trade that is being proposed would work if the Colts and Bills were separated by 1-5 picks AND one of these teams was likely after a LB.

Speed wins. If bailey's there, TD will take him. Why are we all so sold on Posey? I trust TD, but, you can never have enough great linebackers.

Boss Bailey will not even be there. Did you happen to see his combine #'s and his personnal workout #'s. He is nasty - no way 22 picks happen without him being taken. Besides, we're drafting the best available DE with our pick and won't trade down anyways.

TD "took the best player available" last year in josh reed because he knew it was peerless' last year and the third receiver at that time was charles johnson or self troubled reggie germany. TD wanted to draft a receiver. I think that was his plan all along. As far as boss bailey goes, I would love him to be a bill. With the possibly signing of sam adams there would really be no chance of drafting a DT with the first pick. With the condition this team is in right now, which is a more solid unit than last year, TD will really go after the best player available.

We are past the point of needing bodies, additional second day draft picks that take up roster spots.

If we move down, I'd guess you haven't slid far enough. To move out of 23, it would be wiser to trade with Philly at 30- and give them the option of picking up Bailey to replace Barber. The trade would be something on the order of our 1st and 5th for their 1st and 2nd.

We'd still get a quality DL (Warren?)- and potentially Mike Doss at 30- plus 2 #2s, one of which would be WR Washington (Tenn), the other another DL (Brayton?).

dont be so sure td wont take bailey if hes there. the guys a playmaker. gw would simply move takeo to strong side and bring posey in on pass rushing situations. posey isnt that expensive. in fact if the dt or de that td wants isnt there, y not take bailey?
