Trade rumor denied
A New York newspaper reported yesterday that a recently proposed trade between the Flyers and Buffalo Sabres was killed by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman because he did not feel it was in the best interests of the Sabres (who are being run by the league while a new owner is sought). Reportedly, the Flyers were going to acquire Miroslav Satan and defenseman Alexei Zhitnik from Buffalo for a No. 1 draft pick, defense prospect Jeff Woywitka and right wing Pavel Brendl. Brendl, of course, was shipped to Carolina last Friday for Sami Kapanen. As for the Buffalo trade talks, GM Bob Clarke said they "never happened." He added, "there was absolutely no truth to it."

If it is a rumor than the rest of this is a mute point. How does that deal not help the sabres. We get younger and we drop salary and can hopefully get a good pick with that 1st rounder. Woywitka is going to be a good defensemen is this league. If Gary Bettmann can allow a trade like the Alexei Kovalev debacle then then this better just that a rumor! Go Sabres!

Bettman didn't nuke the deal, Regier did. Regier won't move any of the teams top players unless new ownership is in place and they tell him to cut payroll.

Thank you............. wow you guys actully do have common sense!!!

I am very proud of you all for real now.

Its certinally NOT a good idea to make any trades or do anything till we find out how much money we can gamble with and who really needs to be taken off the ice.

Now is NOT the time to be worrying about this. We don't even have an owner!!!
WTF....

Trades should be irrelivant untill further notice of money issues and "REAL" ownership and management is in place.
Trades are the LEAST of our worries right now.

Satan and probly Zhitnik is a good idea to keep untill we can get some GOOD players who know HOW to get these players (satan,z) of much talent on a roll.
You don't see Blake,Mario,Lindros,Leclair,Foresburg and even the SANDMAN on a main scoring line with a bunch of dummies. These guys are all on teams that have MONEY and ownership and management who can get these players together with someone of their equal skill if not someone who has everything these guys don't. It all works for these guys as long as they have certin players that they can play well with.Buffalo and few other teams are the only ones with this good talent and not enough equal players... problem due to low money and well..... look around. It's not Satans fault he can score yet has noone to back him up. Zhitnik is a different player with different issues. Untill we can get some players in here with atleast a 70% chance of helping our key players be successful then theres no hope for a good strong main #1 scoring line,is there?
Be patient in time... after all is said and done with... Buffalo should be on the right track as long as we get someone in here with good business decisions and has money.

going off topic ... you know what sucks?

Goalies are the ones who always get stuck working with the dummies. Dummies like to throw off the goaltender and the goaltender has to whind up throwing there ass out of the way so they can see. ;)

(LOL)

Have a great day :)

How does Brendl and Woywitka (read closer, there was no #1 pick, and even if it was included, the trade is a joke) for Satan and Zhitnik not help the Sabres? IN EVERY DAMN WAY, except for salary. Brendl has a work ethic that didn't fit in on the Rangers. Woywitka addresses a Sabres strength, LD, and his upside isn't great.

Brooks is an idiot and talking out of his ass. If Regier has marching orders from Bettman, why the hell would Regier and Clarke get in discussions in the first place?

You should read it again it does say a #1 draft pick right after zhitnik. Yeah after I thought it over though they should have thrown in a gagne or a williams or something. I am just really frustrated about this season seeing we aren't doing a damn thing this year. I just want to look to the future that is much better than watching this garbage hockey I am watching this year. Go Sabres!
