I guess Mario really is broke with the players they got back in this deal. I knew they were going to dump salary, but they didn't even get a decent draft pick back. But I guess Mario was more interested in the $4 million in cash.......
Maybe it's better to not have an owner. At least the Sabres firesale hasn't started yet!!!!

The trade is a joke. Just more proof that NHL Economics are out of control. Is if it wasn't obvious enough in Buffalo.

What does this mean for the Sabres? A lockout this year might occur.

Sad day for hockey. The Rangers have been doing this crap for the past decade. You remember the rumors around the Lafontaine deal? We had to accept a 2nd rounder, or they would sign Peca to an offer sheet.
Bettman is a joke. The Rangers, Queefs, Stars and all the big market teams are helping to ruin the game.

I think Bettman may have wanted this deal. If he is true to his goal of "cost certainty" etc. This trade provides more fuel for economic stance.

It's just getting sick with these big-market teams and especially with the huge amount we have to spend here. Every time you hear about anyone on the trading block or a free agent 6 teams are named immediately, Rangers, Stars, Leafs, Red Wings, Avalanche, and Blues. Watch for Irbe to be traded to one of these teams very very soon.

This just shows you how much the NHL needs a hard-salary cap they had Jagr, Kovalev, Lang, and Kasparatis all lost. Combine that with a healthy Mario and that's a stanley cup contender. With the way Kovalev and Mario are playing that could be the best offense since the Oilers of the 80's
