looks like the zhitnik trade could get done:

http://www.faceoff.com/nhl/news/story.html?f=/news/20030210/030210114141.html

"There was nothing to the Satan trade," stated Regier. "Bob Clarke (Flyers GM) camae to me about it. I told him there was nothing to it.

"I believe it came from some writer in Philly."

Could the Sabres be making any deals before the trading deadline?

"I think the teams that are seriously looking are those in the upper third of the League right now," said Regier. "They've got an opportunity to take a run at things. Those are the teams that you're going to talk to.

"I think there is the possibility that we could make a deal or two over the next few weeks. We're not frozen.

"I stay in touch with the League offices (who currently operate the Sabres) quite often. They've been great to work with."

As for any trades coming up, Regier admits that trading a player like Satan would be unlikely. But trading a defenseman (the team carries seven), could be a possibility.

"That would be more likely to happen," commented Regier.

The logical defenseman that could be dealt would be Alexei Zhitnik, who carries a $3.3 million price tag. He has been a disappointment to the team offensively, scoring just two goals in two seasons.

Regier also admitted that he could have made a couple of other deals during the season. But at the last minute they fell apart.

Even the players have to be wondering what has been going on with the front office. While other teams just a few places above them have made deals, nothing has happened with the Sabres.

Satan not doing anything??????????????????????

Wasn't he just in his second all star game in 4 years?
He is our best/only star player. He plays on the power play/penalty kill, is our most talented forward, has the best scoring touch, most points, goals, assists, and most points on the team. At a time the team needs desperatly to have some semblance of "watchablility" and someone who is identifiable and a great player, we only have one and you think he should go?

My God, do you ever watch the team play?

Heh maybe I misworded the satan deal! The rest of them can leave though. I mean t if people were inquiring about satan and if the deal seemed pretty good then I'd do it. I'm for getting younger and more skilled and potential is a bonus. Yeha I watch the Sabres all the time I have NHL center ice package and all the players on my list except for satan can be let go for a bag of pucks becuse they haven't been producing squat! Go Sabres!

The boys on NHL Tonight (Last Night) were speculating that Gratton (..and I quote "Somewhat of an Underachiever"), Satan (to the Av's) and Zhitnik are all very good possibilties to be traded.

I don't have a problem with any of them leaving but would we really get "anything" out of any trade deal? No matter what trade is made we will get the dog **** end of the stick.

It doesn't sound like Satan is going anywhere. He's really the only draw they have at this point.

Sorry, but I don't spend a nickel extra to see Satan play. He's good but he draws no one.

I doubt Regier does anything with Zhitnik, Satan, or Gratton until the ownership situation is cleared up or Bettman gives him the order to dump payroll.

And it's a given that if the Sabres go into payroll dumping mode that they'll likely get a return that's a little better than the Canes got for Kapanen for Satan.
