Tom Green is a good pick but Mr. Chimp is flying up the list.

I think he's already passed Shiva in the ESPN?Coaches poll. Shiva still leads in the AP but the gap is closing.

Peter Jennings! He's the idiot who told Toby Keith he didn't think his Angry American song was appropriate for his 4th of July special. Who the hell is he to say what's appropriate? He's not even American! It's OUR 4th of July celebration, not his! I don't even think he gradutated high school! Not only is he annoying, but he's a moron on top of it!

I would too if I were him. It's got his name on it. Country music? Come on!

Valerie
February 5th, 2003, 12:47:58 PM
And, that just adds to my point, Bogus. An American 4th of July celebration shouldn't be hosted by a Canadian! I didn't think it was right that Celion Dion sang God Bless America at the Super Bowl or during the telethon for 9-11 and I don't think anyone but an American should sing the National Anthem. I don't have anything against Canadians, but if we're talking about American holidays and American anthems, I think Americans should be the hosts and the singers. Just my opinion.

I will agree about singing the National Anthem but remember, America or N. America, does comprise of Canada, U.S.A. and Mexico. I think it's acceptable for her to sing God Bless America .

What? It's a song about the United States.

Not everyone hates country music. In fact, Sting and Toby Keith sing a song together, I'm So Happy, I Can't Stop Crying. :) And Sting is far from a country singer.

BogusTrumper

Sting's likes trying out other genres. He does a country song on his albums now and then but they are mostly kinda parodying country music.

psst - don't tell anyone. I don't hate country music. Just rednecks, goat ropers, and **** kickers.

I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying appears on the 1996 album, Mercury Falling. An out and out country tune (the song was later covered by Toby Keith and made the Billboard Country Chart) the song was especially notable on the subsequent tour for Sting's practice of allowing audience members to get on stage to sing along during the performance. The other notable thing about the song was the video - a David Lynch-esque affair featuring spaceships, line dancing aliens, flying horses and jeeps. Oh, and Sting wearing a ludicrous hair piece...

I thought she sang it well,I have heard alot of people butcher that song,so why not have some one who can sing, sing it.I did'nt like celine untill I seen a show about her and the way she treats her people and her fans,I was impressed enough to give her the benefit of the doubt.

I didn't realize Sting did it first. Sorry. I don't have that album. The version on Toby Keith's album, Dream Walkin is a duet with Sting. It's pretty good. :) And, your secret about country music is safe with me. I don't like rednecks either. lol

Ticat, I'm not saying that Celion doesn't have a nice voice. I love her singing. I have all of her CDs and I've seen her in concert. I just don't think she was the right choice to sing an American anthem since she's not American. That's my only point.

You are correct, Ticat. The national anthem is the Star-Spangled Banner. But, in my opinion, God Bless America is still a song about the United States and should be sung by an American.

Celion can love the United States all she wants, that still doesn't make her an American.

And yes, I do believe she is now living in Vegas. Supposedly she's going to start doing shows out there. They built a theater with 4,000 seats and they have yet to sell out her first show. She's overexposed and no one is interested in her anymore.

Actually, you're all wrong. Doug Flutie was born in Maryland, outside of Baltimore. He lived here until he was 7 years old or so and then moved down to Florida. From Florida, he moved to Natic, Massachusetts where he has lived most of his life. :)
