In the second year of my franchise (won the Super Bowl in 2002), I retooled my defense. It was rated last in pass defense in 2002, so I wanted to improve it.

Just played Miami in Buffalo, Week 8. MAN what a difference a D can make.

Miami played with a fictional rookie QB starting (named Troy Slater). Rated pretty good on paper, but in the first seven minutes of the game, he threw two INTs and Chambers fumbled a pass. Three series, three turnovers, 17 Buffalo points. Marcus Jones sacked him in the second quarter, sending Fiedler-the-backup in. He was sacked by my rookie DE on the next play, ending the drive.

Went to the half up 37-0.

OK, it's fake. But's it's FUN fake! Anytime you spank Miami it's fun!

madden 2k3 online is great. i just wish the cheaters would find something better to do with their time.

there's nothing worse than coming back from a 14 point deficit to win in the last seconds against miami than to have some total pud pull the plug because they are a sore loser.

i find a lot of the times i play against miami they either cheat or they disconnect right at the end...scum bags!

hey if i'm losing i take the lose and move on to play another day. sore losers and scum bags hurt the madden2k3 online experience.

so now that's out of the way...

does anyone have ANY idea how to setup audibles for offense and defense? the madden manual lacks any explanation as to how this is accomplished.

happy new year!!!

"Grimey".... people are always givin you **** huh? even onlie.... lol ;)

I'm not sure how to set audibles... I have done it but I forget how... I think if (in franchise mode) you go to the rosters menus where you can set depth charts, substitutions, make trades, etc. that should be one of the options.

Stealth, you should buy/rent NCAA 2003 and import the draft class... it's time consuming to re-name all the players from the draft, but it's kool to have actual players in the draft!

I did that last year, it took me a good 3-4 hours renaming everyone, but it was worth it having Julius Peppers and Mike Williams instead of someone like Chris Kapter.

Also, stopping the pass is the hardest part on that game. For instance if the computer runs a corner route with the 3rd WR, its pretty much impossible to defend.

Quiz:

Hard to give advice if I don't know what you're doing wrong. In general, if you're playing with the Bills real roster, rebuild the D, run Travis Henry all day, and protect Drew. If you're playing online, I don't know what to say. I don't do the online thing, since I have no high speed connection.

Grimey:

To set up audibles, you have to go into your Profile setup, select audibles, and choose the ones you want from the play list.

I like using the fictional players, actually, when I draft. Makes it fun to draft someone and groom them along.

And finally, stopping the pass is a matter of schemes. I use the blitz sparingly, and use a LOT of plays designed to double the WRs. My pass D is currently #17.

Only thing that sucks about Franchise mode is that every team becomes 92+ overall team once you past first two season.I simulated the first 4 season so that I start playing with players I draft even though players are fictional.I have actually played 2 season and simulated 4 and I hate the fact every team is 92 or higher overall..

my best madden D is switching to a cover 2 scheme and Jamming the wideouts. it gives the pass rush that extra time to get to the qb on an inside biltz and is reall good online to take opp. off there usually "long bomb" game plan. nuts 15 mins to the new year for me and im at work. poo

I love it too, have it for PC. But their are a few things that really piss me off though. Like for example, their are 3 receivers to pass to they are activated by pressing, A, G or L. I'll press G and it will throw it to L and I have to give the ball over on downs. One other thing that has always annoyed me about John Madden, I was looking on the Madden Millenium team and guess who starts at DE? Charles Haley! I'm so sick of Madden being obsessed with him and other Cowgirl players! Sure Haley was a good player, but I could think of about 10 other DEs that are way better than he ever was.

Chris Kapter? One of the guys on my team was named Mike Cu-nter and another was Chris Cu-nten. Basically I have a team of Cu-nts. LOL

I haven't gotten past the second season yet, Minus, so I haven't seen that effect. I'm on week 9 now (and my pass D has dropped to number FREAKIN thirty thanks to Coy, London, and Andy Katzenmoyer going out with injuries and me playing FIVE rookie starters on D), and my team is FAR from a 92.

I suspect the improvements to 92 or better is due to the draft being lopsided (and having few flops) and due to the inequities of simming the games you don't play. The game selects stats RANDOMLY for those simmed games, meaning they all even out over time and improvements are equal.

That's what I do, too, Tristan. I play a combination of 4-3, 46, and nickel Ds, with goal line, 3-4, and dime when needed. Usually I shift the DL in, the LBs to one side, and move the DBs to bump coverage to buy those initial seconds of coverage and stop the quick passes.

Right now, Marcus Jones has 10 sacks for me. My rookie DT has 6 and my rookie DE has 5. It's normally hard to get sacks with DLs, but I am having no problem.

How do you import the draft class by renting ncaa 2003?

Mouldsie
January 1st, 2003, 7:58:37 PM
start a dynasty..... (doesn't matter what team) simulate the season (or play.....) and at the end of teh season it will show you which players have graduated or chose to leave college and there should be a message at the bottom telling you to push a certain button (depends on system) called "
import draft class" and it will save teh draft class on your hard drive (xbox -madden will automatically recognize it) or memory card (ps2... not sure how that works)

and after you finish your madden season in franchise mode it will say import draft class after the "retired players" screen

so for ps2 you have to rent ncaa and import their draft class, save it on a memeory card then import to madden?

The Spaz
January 1st, 2003, 8:12:36 PM
Yeah I also import draft classes from ncaa 2003! I have a few hints or if you persist "cheating". Finish a season of franchise mode then look at who everyone drafts and see who get's the highest rated picks no matter what the position write it down and finish the draft. Then go to trade and trade your draft picks for their rookies that they just drafted. It will either take a 2nd or a 1st rounder to get the rookie dependind on his ranking. If it just takes a 1st rounder you can then choose to trade your 2nd and 3rd rounder for the next highest rated player. again this may take just a 2nd rounder if not include a 3rd a 4th and so on. The moral of this is who needs a draft when you just steal the computers!:) Some may call this cheating and some call this strategy. But if the computer is stupid enough to let you do this I say go for it!:) Game on! Go Bills!

Mouldsie
January 1st, 2003, 8:30:09 PM
yeah inkt.....

the players will not have names though.... you have to rename the top players (only juniors and seniors) before you save the draft class.

if they dont have names whats the difference with importing and not importing?

I've gone online twice (highspeed - Roadrunnner) and downloaded updated rosters, but each time I used them for some reason my game would freeze up. I've since deleted the rosters from my memory card and haven't had a problem, I don't know why it happened, or if it was just coincidence.

As for the game itself, I love it. I use the Bills name, but ran a draft at the start of my franchise to mix things up a bit. The only thing is that before each game I have to go into the other teams roster and figure out who they have and what their strengths/weaknesses are. My offense rocks, good running and passing, but my defense is horrible. Everytime I think I have the computer stopped they convert a 3rd and long. My wife gets made at me because I'll sit there for hours saying how the game cheats and everything is b.s....but yet I keep on playing.

Go to A.I. to adjust the levels of play: WR catching, RB ability, O-line blocking ability, interception levels, etc.

I WILL DOMINATE ALL OF YOU! BOW BEFORE ME!

GET HENRY's NUMBER RIGHT!!!

Mouldsie

DFENSE?

Well Grimey, This is what I do....
I like to play a 4-3 defense, spread the DE's to the ends as far apart as they go..... (shift them out)

then rush 3 and drop your 2nd dtring DT into coverage(controlled by you).... if they run, go to the line like a LB, if they pass watch for TE's and RB's... if your safe there (no threats from backfield or TE's) do a delayed rush and the OL usually doesn't pick it up too well (the center will probably pick up on you, but if you know the right DL combos you can beat him). I use mini-camp to practice my pass-rush. If you're controlling your regular DT (no subsitutions to DE or something) a bull rush while holding the sprint button works great!

When your defense starts stomping people and it's 3rd and long, BLITZ (send 6/7).... Human players can't handle a strong rush as well as computers can in 3rd and long situations...
