Say it ain't so, Tommy. As long as I have been a fan of the Braves, Tom Glavine has been a maninstay in our rotation. Now he plays for the team's number 1 contender to the East division, the New York Mets.

The deal is a 3 year, 35 million dollar contract with a option on the 4th year. My guess is Tom will become a liability rather than a help by the time he gets to that 4th year, though. Ever since the new strike zone was introduced in 2001, Tommy has been very hittable, especially in the first 3 innings of a start. Still, this gives the Mets the best shot at dethroneing the Braves this season.

For my team, though, there is hope. We return with a lineup that includes Andrew and Chipper Jones, Gary Sheffield, Javy Lopez, Vinny Castilla, and Rafeal Furacal, among others.

The rotation, assuming Greg Maddux does return and it looks as if he will, now includes Maddux, Kevin Millwood, Mike Hampton, Jason Marquis and Derek Moss. My hope is that either Jamie Moyer or Bartolo Colon will join this impressive staff, allowing either Moss or Marquis to become a set up man in the bullpen, which returns only John Smoltz, Chris Hammond and Darrin Holmes so far.

I think this may finally be the year the Braves do not win the division, but there is still the wild card.
