I say Curt Shilling is this year

I'll still vote for A Rod. Plays every day and puts up incredible numbers. Plays great D too.

When the Playoffs start, Schilling will be more valuable, but in terms of this year, A Rod gets my vote.

I don't thik it's fair to compare pitchers with position players. Schilling is MLB's best hurler but AROD is the best multi-dimentional player in the game.

I think a pitchers worth is so much more valuable then a hitters worth.

I would agree with that if you were comparing Schilling vs a guy like Edgar Martinez (DH). But a guy like AROD is in every game and makes a defesive impact, while a pitching ace is only part of a rotation. It's hard to say.

A good example of a guy with great potential is Jeff Weaver. His era was around 3.1 but his W-L was far less that .500. He's a good pitcher on a weak team and thus has limited impact on a day-in, day-out basis.

The value of a single pitcher goes up in the playoffs but during the 162 game year he is only on the field one in five days and even if he gets a win in 22 of his 35 starts thats only a small impact. Once the playoffs start that all changes but for the season ARod is the best player IMO. Curt is by far the best pitcher in the game this season but he will still only account of 35 games played.

A-Rod get up to the base only 4 times a game and if he hits well then he gets on base twice. How is that value more important then someone who can single-handidly win a game on his own.

Vlad Guerrero is better than A-Rod

Not as a complete player. Vlad is very ggod but no everyday player is better than ARod right now. IMHO

The numbers would suggest they are equal and actually give the advantage to Vlad. By the way his arm is one of the best in the game. I saw him throw out a guy at home from the outfield

Vlad did make a great throw form the right fiels corner the other night. One hop to nail a guy at the plate.

Vlad is a great player but at this point in their careers I think ARod is better. Vlad may prove me wrong in a year.

A-Rod is and will be the best player in baseball for years.

Pitchers are the best players and right now I would take Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, Tom Glavine over ARod any day of the week. ARod can hit 50 homeruns and drive in over 100 and have a batting average over .300, but pitchers can singlehandidly win a game for you.

Hey, you forgot to put Ichiro on the list. I don't know if he is the best player in MBL, but he is one of the top players. He don't hit many homeruns, but if anyone is every going to hit 400, it is going to be him. And as a outfielder, he is the best in the business.

The "stats" don't conclude that A-Rod is on par with Vlad. A-Rod is the best pure player in the game.

A-Rod is the best player overall. Vlad's not far behind, though.

How can you all ignore Barry Bonds. The poll is not about who has the best potential it is who is the best player, the answer to that is simple Barry Bonds.

Just for the record, A-Rod had 11 MORE home runs than Barry Bonds last season, and 32 MORE RBI's.

A-Rod's not playing on potential though. He's proven is he and will be one of the best baseball players if not the best EVER.
