..........after a decade of negotiations, an optional protocol to the 1984 convention against torture was approved by the UN's human-rights commission.
On July 24th America, which has been a member of the convention against torture since 1994, tried to send the protocol back to the drafters...............
This allies the US with Cuba and Iran in opposing the measure.
