I live in Jacksonville, Florida where practically every truck and SUV has one of those god forsaken "Remember Dale" stickers.

Some idiot drives a car in excess speeds of 200 miles per hour at his own free will... and then when he crashes and dies, everyone is shocked at appalled. Reality check: If you drive over 200 miles per hour, you shouldn't expect to survive an accident no matter how much preparation goes into it.

More so, the guy who supposedly ran him into the wall is harassed with hate mail and death threats. Hello? Dale Earnhardt was known as the "Intimidator". What happened to him is exactly what he made a career out of doing to other drivers. But when it happens to old #3, it's a tragedy. I just adore the irony. NASCAR is the dumbest sport in the history of the universe and it's fans are even dumber.

Is Dale Earnhardt a hero? No!

i really don't consider any athlete as a hero for what they do inside their sport. they entertain us. i do respect and appreciate some for what they do outside of their sport though.

I'm not big on nascar either but I do respect it as a sport and a competition. It's tragic when any athlete dies on the field, track , court, rink, whatever. You don't have to like nascar, I don't, but to refer to him as "some idiot" is just ignorant. What about my favorite sport, football? Are they "idiots" because they volutarily step onto the field risking paralasys? If you don't like a sport, fine. Just don't say stupid things about it. All athletes are competiive and have a will to win and go through the same highs and lows in victory, defeat and injury. That's why they respect eachother even if they're not into the sport.

Football and Nascar are apples and oranges.

Football players risk serious injury, but rarely does a football player actually lose his life.

Nascar drivers drive over 200 mph. Their life is at risk everytime they buckle up for a race.

To me, if you drive 200 miles and die, you're an idiot. I don't care how much money you are being paid... Dead people can't use money. Now, call me ignorant if you wish, but that's my story and I'm sticking with it.

I saw his car at Gillogly Chevrolot in West Seneca back in 1991. I too don't understand the sport, but many love it to be sure.
