1932: India made their Test cricket debut against England at Lord's. The hosts, captained by Douglas Jardine, won by 158 runs.

1948: Joe Louis beat 'Jersey' Joe Walcott at New York's Yankee Stadium in the 25th and last defence of his world heavyweight title.
Louis won in the 11th round and retired eight months later.

1969: The longest men's singles match ever took place between Americans Pancho Gonzales and Charlie Pasarell.
Their 112 games took five hours and 12 minutes - Gonzales recovering from 24-22 and 6-1 reverses in the first two sets to win the last three 16-14 6-3 11-9.
