Rhett Warrener would be an absolute failure in the current Sabre system and I think Darcy realizes that. He simply cannot move the puck at an acceptable level to play for the Sabres. If you're going to add another "banger' defenseman he better be a little capable at moving the puck. Rivet at least has the ability to lift his head up and make a pass out of the zone. Warrener and Smith ....... no chance. They are head down and fire up the boards d-men and that is not what the Sabres need.

Today, right now, is Rhett Warrener better than Tony "*******" Lydman? If the answer is yes, then sign Warrener. If he answer is no, then no thank you.

Warrener in his best days wasn't better than Lydman.

Ridiculous. Warrener is still a good defensemen. i caught a couple games last year. Calgary had to move on because of the injuries.

Its only rediculous if you think Lydman stinks. I happen to think Lydman is a very good D-man.

My understanding of the Flames situation with Warrener was that he and Mike Keenan couldn't coexist. I don't remember where I read that, or if its even true, but the article said that Warrener wasn't as injured as the Flames were leading on. That being said, I think taking a chance on Teppo is about the same risk as taking a chance on Warrener at this point in their careers.

no, i like Lydman. I just think when Warrener was in his prime, he was much much better. A lot of people (most people) were never sold on McKee until he paired with Warrener to form Buffalo's top pairing.

Warrener to return?
I would not mind it one bit.

Old and war torn. The guy has played physical hockey for his career and it shows. People who think they'd be getting the same guy as 4 or 5 years ago will be sadly disappointed.

No thanks

If Rhett wanted to come back when Mckee left us I'd have been all for it, now I just don't see him being able to contribute like he used to. Warrener was a warrior here the 1st time, and his dynamic duo with Mckee was one of the best pairings I've ever seen in Sabre uniforms. The team has changed since he left, we're a fast paced, puck moving bunch now and he just can't keep up anymore. Darcy was right to trade him when he did, he had 2 great seasons left in him and spent them in Calgary. Rhett lost his game when the lockout changed the way the game was played. Sorry old friend, maybe there's a European league team that needs a war horse.

As a pair, yeah McKee and Warrener were my favorite. I just think Lydman brings more than Warrener. Lydman doesn't fight, but he will hit and he definitely blocks shots.

Really doesn't matter anyways, If Warrener was brought in they would both be here, Warrener probably as a 6th.

Bring him in and let him try to make the squad. If he fails, so be it.

I don't see any other teams lining up to vie for his services.

Everyone seems to be ignoring the obvious. He can't move the puck. There's a reason why Buffalo is so soft on "D". It's nearly impossible to find a physical D-man that can play their system. If you're so hell bent on getting a purely physical D-man then at least trade for a Bieksa or Exelby. Don't go after a 90 year old decrepit Rhett Warrener.
