guess he has a clause in his contract allowing him to stay in Germany if he doesn't make the team out of camp. Personally, i think it would be a terrible idea for him to not be in Portland this year. Knowing the Sabs the past couple years, there will be an injury rash that has then 2 or 3 deep into the call up list. Him going back to Germany makes it impossible for him to impress the organization, or get the call should they need the help.

Phillip Gogulla today told German news outlet bild.de that he'll likely remain with Kolner Haie of the DEL for one more season, but will make a final decision shortly.

Also in the interview, the tired Gogulla spoke of the recent development camp by railing on the camp beds, being woken up at 6 AM, and practicing without breakfast.

Gogulla performed well while skating on a line with Nathan Gerbe and Marek Zagrapan at last week's Development Camp. The 6'2, 198-pound wing scored a career best 43 points in 50 games with Cologne last season, and looks poised to eat up top-6 forward minutes with Portland if he decides to come to North America.

Regardless of his decision, Gogulla is expected to participate in the Sabres training camp this fall.

Doesn't look like it. Mark Mancari outscored him by 17 points.

Lame I still hope he gets a chance to play like a full preseason game or some thing.

All he needs is one good game hahahaha sucks that he's a lefty though we have enough of them

WTF... was there some kind of hazing at the rookie camp... getting harassed out of bed at 6AM and practicing before eating is bush league crap. These guys are playing hockey, not going to war.

How did this turn into a thread about Zagrapan.

As for Gogulla, when he signed his contract last offseason there was a clause where if he didn't make the NHL squad he could return to Germany. He did it last season and all signs point to him doing it this year as well. I don't think it's the best thing for his development but maybe there are other reasons we're not aware of.

As for Zagrapan, it's wayyyy too soon to label him a bust. He was considered a project when we picked him and it's very evident now that he is a project. Guys like that aren't making the NHL at 20/21 years old. To me it was pretty impressive that he kept the same PPG from 06/07 to 07/08 considering he was playing on a significantly worse team and there are very few guys (3 or 4) who didn't decline in PPG.
