Salary dump? This certainly can't be based on performance, Rivet was probably the most consistent Dman all year long for the Sharks.

Nice sounds like he doesnt need a babysitter. He will improve who ever hes paired with.

Craig Rivet, I will miss the edge to your game sir. THANKS!

And the blueline just got softer...

NO! As great as the new stuff with Blake and Boyle sounds, I think Rivet was great for us. I guess it was a move just to clear up cap room and get some picks back. It's too bad, cuz he really liked it here and I know I'm not the only one sad to see him go. Ugh...

Hate to see him go. I wish all the best for him

I know Doug needed to dump salary, but I am not digging this move.

Damn - I don't like this move either... Dump salary... fine - Lukowich & McLaren is ~$4mil this year... dump them... damn...

Wow. Missed the writing on that wall..I would have preferred they buy-out Grier/Mac. Rivet brought game every night. Thanks for the short memories.....

Too bad...Rivet played with heart
I hope he does good in Buffalo

Sounds like Darcy picked up a solid Dman to me... Let's get one more just to balance the blueline with our frontline!

Teppo - Sweet, even if he rode the bench, still a priceless addition to a young team.
Smith - Not going to happen, but also would be sweet.
Malik - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Horrible, Stupid, Weak player, not to mention a Dman... We just got rid of Tree, lets keep the dummies out of here!
Hedican - Sure, why not, even more XP.

Anyone else out there we can bait in?

Sharks blogger from hockey buzz

Craig Rivet – There were a lot of times last season when we’d wonder aloud or ask one another online who would captain the Sharks if Patrick Marleau were dealt or stripped of the C. Again and again, without hesitation, Rivet was the first name mentioned or typed or shouted. No other Shark showed more courage or dependability sticking up for teammates, and no other blueliner came close to providing his level of leadership last season.

The Sharks have lacked heart, grit and other similar intangibles since Doug Wilson took over the GM duties, so why would they choose to dump the one defenseman who demonstrates those qualities? Also, if you’re looking to shed salary, how about buying out or trading Kyle McLaren, who’s probably going to be as useful as a bottomless wheelbarrow for most of the coming season?
