In regards to Teppo Numminen.
If he has regained his normal playing weight and is healthy. I would love his leadership back on the blueline.
In the 05/06 season Teppo registered 40 points and was a plus six. In the 06/07 season Teppo had 29 points and was a plus 17. His normal playing weight is 200lbs and he is 6’2”
Just imagine him not having to baby-sit Kalinin anymore. That is exciting to me. I would love to see him just worry about his own responsibilities and not having to cover for Kalinin anymore.
I think we will see a very James Patrick like end to Teppos career here in Buffalo.
If anyone remembers. We talked about cutting JP for three consecutive seasons. He had lost too many steps, was too old, bla, bla, bla, and yet every year he ended up one of our most dependable blueliners.

one of our most dependable players? He played one game last year. I'm all for tempo staying with the organization, but not as a player. There better options on the roster and in freeagency. Between his hip and heart he just cant stay on the ice. I don't care how much of a "calming influence" he is. It means crap when he's on the IR.

Well I am impressed with the drunk Iphon texting.
But as for your take on Teppo I think you need to revaluate your position. Teppo missed last year due to his heart problem. Not any different than missing the year due to a broken limb. At least not in recovery time.
If he could can play a game in the NHL like he did last year looking like he weighed around 160 lbs he definitely can do so at full strength.
Teppo is 39 years old and has a good two years left in him. He has proven that through his play with the Sabres. Hell he won a Silver medal in the Olympics only three years ago!
Please refer to the previous post I made about James Patrick. Come on. Don’t have short term memory. Please also don’t underestimate the value of Teppo to this team.
I will confidently say this. Teppo will prove me correct this year. And in the playoffs when we make our triumphant return this year..

maybe I'm making too much out of it, but, Teppo is a terrific play starter. What I mean is, he knows where to pass the puck when he has it in our zone. he also has a lot of poise when clearing the zone and he has a calming influence out there when the pressure is on in the defensive zone.
I love it that he can make the solid out of the zone pass. I think it was something we missed as our defenders struggled to effectively make that first pass.
I know Soupy had the whole puck carrying attribute, which was seen as something we might need to replace, but I'd rather have that first pass skill of a defenseman, that is a a very good quality in my opinion.
I posted this in another thread, but I think his skills are important to this team.

If he could be had around 1.5 or below, you have to take him back in a second (I almost said heartbeat). He is a great at making the first pass and even though he doesn't appear to be the fastest skater, he is certainly the smartest one. I think he knows his limitations and would help this team, if nothing else as a 7th d-man.
