I know Jaro had a real bad first season of his contract but he was very solid last year. He also seems to get injured quite often but all in all he was one of our best defenders last year. He is in his last year of his contract but is Darcy really putting his name out there to other GM's. I don't see how a reporter would just pull his name out of the air out of all the defenders in the league. His name must have been brought up and I don't understand why we want to get more physical but we would traded our most physical defender from last year??
Don Brennan reports Senators GM Bryan Murray is shopping for a veteran defenseman and is believed trying to land Anaheim's Mathieu Schneider, although Brennan feels he's past his "best before" date. "Other available options being quietly shopped, according to one assistant GM, include the hard-shooting Sheldon Souray (although the local TV stations would have to stop running that jewelry store commercial in which the former Hab is undressed by Jason Spezza, right?), Philippe Boucher, Kevin Bieksa, Mike Van Ryn, Trevor Daley, Adrian Aucoin, Filip Kuba, Tom Poti, Jaroslav Spacek and Cam Barker", writes Brennan, who also suggests if Murray talks trade with Carolina to try to land forward Tuomo Ruutu.

Why not? If we could get better return, why not? Say, swing Spacek for another good D man plus some other assets...

He's got 1 year left on his deal, right? Why not?

Not a chance in hell the Sabres would trade Spacek to Ottawa, nor would they trade anyone else to Ottawa.

I could see it. We are talking about a 34 year old D-man with 1 year left on his contract.

If you could bring in a 25-28 year old D-man with some years under his belt, like say Cam Barker, I would do it. Although Barker is younger.

Jeez, they seems a bit speculatory to me considering the article names like 10+ people.

I know but all of those names must have been involved with trade talks. I honestly don't think he would just pull out 10 random players. I don't think he will get traded it is just kinda shocking to see him in a sentence with trade seeing he proved a lot with his physical nature last season.

Fine with me. Started strong, had one great game vs Philly, then faded into oblivion as the season stretched. Also owned the single worst moment for me when Steve Downie ran over Miller in the crease, got up and started throwing punches at Miller, all the while Spacek was standing a couple feet away watching.

Spacek has a vagina. But she is a good D-man.

Shit, clips like those make me ill. When Derek Roy has to pull Joe Thorton off a teammate, there is a major major problem. You notice how nobody wants to do it, and Roy just kind of ends up being the closest after everybody else gets themselves out of the way. Terrible.

This kind of bullsh*t is why anyone that doesn’t think Rivet being a Sabre isn’t huge doesn’t know anything about hockey.
We still need to add a legitimate goon to this squad. Peters can’t fight (or more importantly doesn’t scare anyone) and he certainly can’t skate therefore resulting in being useless on a checking line SINCE HE CAN’T CHECK!!

Sorry for that soap box.
Back to the point. I don’t hate Spacek, but as someone wrote earlier in this thread. If we can get a younger guy of the same skill level (and hopefully Canadian or American) go for it Darcy..

I would only deal Spacek if we could get a young defenseman like Bieksa in return for him, but I don't see why Vancouver would give up a younger, cheaper, player who's signed for a couple years for an older guy with a 1 year deal. Obviously I wanted Bieksa in return for Bernier, that would've made sense as a trade and I wouldn't be upset about losing him that way. If we could steal Bieksa for Spacek that would even the score.

If somone is looking for a Dman I doubt they would trade us a Better Dman. That doesn't make sense.

Well no, you wouldn't think so. I wouldn't expect Spacek to be the only asset in play, would you?

Would you trade future picks and Spacek for a younger D-man? How about a prospect?

Do I have to spell it all out? :)

We would have to get back a defenseman that can play this year for Spacek. We just don't have that much depth behind what we have, so I can't see him moved unless it was with a player that can play this year.

The Sabres were #4 in scoring last year.

The PP stunk down the stretch.

The D was responsible for a number of late game collapses.

The only way Jaro gets traded is if it's for a younger more inexperienced D man ( a la Sekera / Weber / Paetsch ) or a forward. We don't need another forward. and we don't need any additional D projects.

Jaro is going to be an important part of the Sabres D next season. I can't see him traded at this point. They've added Rivet -- add a healthy Spacek and the emergence of Sekera/Weber -- you have the makings of a very solid D.

Pull Spacek out of the mix and all of a sudden you are putting young players in position to have trouble.

That's OK..... his boys had his back covered. Ryan grabbed the referee and Soupy grabbed the concessions guy selling popcorn in the aisle.
