NFL on Fox theme is another of my favorites. I just dont get that gametime feeling when I hear the HNIC theme, maybe because I didnt grow up with it. Ive only been watching HNIC for the last few years.

Having said all of that, the Sabres intro needs some definite tweaking. We use that damn Hurricane 2000 song way too much. Where the hell is the Sabre Dance? There are about 5 different rock-style revisions that could be used for the intro and lead-in music. But no, we have to use the song that became trendy after the lockout (other teams use it a lot too). I was going to say let's be original and break away from the trand, but it's not even originality that I'm looking for. You have a song that matches the namesake of your team USE IT!

And,about the HNIC theme,two things:

1. It'll probably be back...watch;Canadian hockey fans will organize en masse and protest whoever the hell sponsors HNIC. It worked back in the day when the Nordiques fans assembled a protest over a plan to sell the team to an out of town interest who planned to move it.

2. As long as YouTube's around,the theme will live on.

Toronto, ON - CTV Inc., together with Copyright Music & Visuals, today announced that CTV Inc. has acquired all rights to 'The Hockey Theme' in perpetuity, preserving the song's legacy and ensuring it will be heard on national television for years to come. 'The Hockey Theme' song will now live on CTV Inc. properties TSN, RDS and across Canada on CTV during coverage of the upcoming Vancouver 2010 Olympics as outlined below.

The deal between CTV and Copyright Music & Visuals was agreed to in principle after the CBC publicly announced last Friday at 5 p.m. ET that a deal could not be reached with the rights holders. Due diligence was completed earlier today.

The song, which was created by Vancouver's Dolores Claman in 1968, will now be used in NHL broadcasts on TSN and RDS beginning this Fall. In addition, CTV will utilize the song as part of its hockey coverage during the upcoming Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

I think CBC messed up by using it against copyright laws a few years ago and Delores Claman probably wouldn't deal with them because of it. Best hockey theme ever especially the '68 original. I have the remake they did a few years ago on cd.

Definitely a big mess up on CBC's part. Yes, $2M is pricey for a song, but CTV owns it in perpetuity. They own a piece of Canadiana, which I thought was CBC's mandate as a tax-funded entity.

Moore and the rest of the CBC can tap dance all they want. They just showed plain idiocy here.
