The disaster that is the Dmitri Kalinin experiment is now officially over. Per WGR550 the Sabres won't be offering him a contract.
Celebrate amongst yourselves.

Good to hear but it is really nothing new. I think Darcy has been saying this since the beginnings of last year. Hopefully that means we will sign someone and not expect Paetsch to come in and take his spot. If thats the case I may actually want Kalinin back. Kalinin and Paetsch just don't make me happy.

Christ, this reeks of filling the position from within. Yay mediocrity!

It was $2.25M I think... fairly significant. Definitely helps free up some money for solid defensive help.

This is a beautiful day.
Maybe I won't be needing refills on my Xanax and Klonopin prescriptions after all...

DK was the Losman of the Sabres: 1st round pick, all the talent in the world, showed good flashes, but ultimately, we just wasted years & cash and will get nothing in return. Oh well.

I have never seen a player that everybody loved to hate as much as Kalinin, and I'm not sure I will ever understand it. Sure they guy was inconsistent and no he never lived up to his ridiculous hype. However, so many people forget that he was our best defenseman for most of our Presidents trophy winning season.

Bye Tri. Maybe you just need a change of scenery. There are some plays (or non plays) he made as a Sabre that I'm sure still haunt him daily. I wish him the best though. I can't say I hate him, because he was an amazing player for spurts and I think a major factor in most Sabre fans' disdain for him is their own expectations of what they wanted out of Tri. However, if he had shown a bit more consistency as a whole he would be getting that contract, or would already be locked up for the near future.

I agree with you here. That is why I am sure he will land somewhere else with a decent contract. Yes, he had a down year and has been inconsistent, but he has had success - as you pointed out. I think that when he fell out of favor with Lindy, everyone piled on and he became the resident scapegoat. Not entirely deserved.
Looks like he's just the latest Russian Sabre that needs a "change of scenery"

I have never seen a player the Coach loved to bench as much as Kalinin
