This may be surprising as the game has a reputation for being fiendishly complicated, but as the following humorous exposition, "cricket as explained to a foreigner," shows, cricket is actually simplicity itself.
"You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he is out. When they are all out, the side that's been out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
"When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out, he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who are all out all the time, and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game."

Why does it take a week to play a game especially when they play 8 hours a day.
Why do they stop for tea in the middle of the game?

Reeves just made an easy game to watch, harder to understand.
I am going out now but I will be in later unless I'm out while I'm out, but not before I come in. If I come in before anyone is out am I then out or would I still be considered in? What if I come in and everyone else is out then am I in or out?

Reeves
I spent 5 months in India a few years ago and got to watch a lot of cricket on TV.
Interesting game.
My favorite team was Sri Lanka cuz they batted more like North American baseball players, they'd swing for the fences and hit a lot more sixes.
The guys that would go up and dink and dunk for hours on end would drive me crazy!
Of course my Indian friends told me it was because I was an ignorant barbarian who didn't understand the subtleties of the sport. Lol.
India and Pakistan come to Toronto every year to play a series of one day test matches. They get a huge turnout.

Actually, I've always thought that cricket is a lot like a game we used to play as kids called "run the bases" - players try to run back and forth between two bases while two people play catch with a baseball and try and tag the baserunners out if they are off base. In cricket, you bat instead of throw the ball, and keep track of how many times you run back and forth.
One day cricket is a lot more fun than test matches, but either way I found it interesting to watch.

I like the dart game - winning gets me free drinks sometimes.

Hey Reeves,
I was in one of those cricket countries a bit more than a month ago and heard some guy got divorced, then went out and scored 200 points or something, a record I guess.
There's a story there somewhere.

Reeves,
I hereby appoint you our resident "cricketologist." You are commissioned to find out what the personal record is for points scored in a contest. I submit it is 200 or so, by this divorced gent. Am I right?

Truth be told, I was in a bar in Brazil. A number, (5 or so), of Brits were there, talking about cricket. I told them I was a baseball guy, who couldn't figure out their game. As we talked, they found out I had played hard ball until the age of 40. They were looking for a guy to fill out their team the next day. As the night unfolded, they apparently believed I might be able to fill the spot, and offered me a spot on the club. I was unable to accept, but thanked them for the offer. Did kind of peak my interest though.

Can it really be considered a game if the guys stop during the day to sit down and have tea? It kind of looks to me like one guy taking batting practice while the other guys shag balls that have been hit into the outfield.
