It has been a tough season for Bisons fans, with the team 8-16 and 8.5 games out of first in April. But don't worry fans, it could be worse, we could be rooting for the new team in Allentown PA, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. The Iron Pigs are 3-21 and should lose well over 100 games this season. That is hard to do seeing you only play 144 in Triple A. This team is so bad the games are mostly blowouts, where the Bisons are in games till the bullpen takes over.

But I kinda feel good in a way about the Iron Pigs losing ways. Philadelphia started the mess of teams changing farm clubs by announcing they were pulling out of Scanton. The Yankees then pulled out of Columbus to move into Scranton. Now the Indians want to leave Buffalo for Columbus. So if Philly left well enough alone nobody would be moving anywhere. So I hope they lose 100 games, maybe 120 games or maybe 130 games.

When you are twenty games below .500 in a baseball season things are not going well for the team. When you are twenty games below .500 and you are twentysix games into the season, things are really not going well. With tonights 1-0 loss to Syracuse the Iron Pigs managed that feat. 3-23, yeah that really must hurt to look at in the standings in Allentown. The Bisons have the IL's second worst record, and they are only seven under .500.

This is what you also get when you're forced to rely on minor league vets, because your farm system is tapped dry at the moment.

Iron Pig is a part of steelmaking heritage. I wouldn't rip the name too bad, it's kind of cool to link to your heritage like that...

Phillies farm system is bone dry right now. I can't name one elite prospect they have.

The quote of the day from Doug Smith, who writes for the Niagara Gazette. Many of you guys who are older then myself probably remember him from the Buffalo Courier Express. Anyway he said "The Phillies looked at the market size in Allentown and realized it was not big enough for a Triple A team, so they sent them a Single A team".

And for the record, the Iron Pigs are 4-27, 18 games behind first place Scranton Wilkes Barre and 9 games behind the fifth place Bisons.

The Iron Pigs hit two "milestones" today. First they hit the 30 loss mark, now with a 5-30 record. They also fell to 20 games behind the divison leading Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees. That is 8 wins behind the IL's second worst team in Norfolk and a full 9 games behind Rochester who sits at 14-21 and fourth place in the IL North. If the Red Wings did not get to play Lehigh Valley, they may only have 10 wins, as 4 of their 14 wins came againts the Iron Pigs. If they Wings keep this up they may get a thread of their own.

It may be idiotic, but at least there is some historical basis for it.

Better than than a nickname that is dumb AND has no history behind it.

The Iron Pigs are on fire, winners of two in a row. Back to 19 games out of first. BREAK UP THE PIGS!

Bisons get their first shot at Lehigh Valley next weekend with a four game series at home.

Game #1 is Saturday at 7:05 pm ET - it would be nice if the Bisons move up this game to say 3:35 pm ET start? or 4:05 pm ET start? so there won't be a conflict with the Bandits-Jax NLL Championship Game that will be played down the street at 7:35 pm ET. Who knows maybe Bandit fans will take in the baseball game earlier and make it a Buffalo sports DH - especially if the weather is good to be outside. (If it happens, yours truly won't be one of them. 90% of the time, I either Sat/Sun off from work and due to a family get-together next Sunday, I had to choose that day as my day off. I get home from work around 3:30 pm ET or so, so I'll have plenty of time to rest up for the Bandits game that evening.)

Game #2 is Sunday at 1:05 pm ET.
Game #3 is Monday at 7:05 pm ET.
Game #4 is Tuesday at 7:05 pm ET.

Depending on the weather/my mood etc - I may try to get to either the Monday or Tuesday games.

An intresting rumor about the Iron Pigs was floating around the ballpark last night. This is the last year of the agreement between the Iron Pigs and Phillies, which started last year when the Pigs were the Ottawa Lynx. Anyway everyone thought they would resign, seeing the who Phillies move from Scranton was to get closer to Philly. Well things are not good on the field this in Lehigh Valley, with the Pigs having a 9-31 record at this point. So the rumor was that the Iron Pigs are going to boot Philly out and bring the Washington Nationals in, who will be leaving Columbus when the Indians move their farm club there. If that move takes place, the Phillys Triple A team would be in the PCL with New Orleans.
