Rucker no doubt

even though we don't need him I say Connor (if available) or Rucker.

LotteryPick
April 26th, 2008, 9:49:37 PM
We need a TE or some OL depth. I would say Cottam or Rucker, or Dre Moore would actually be a pretty solid pick in the 3rd round.

However, I say we go with Justice or McGlynn to play OC and see if we can grab Cottam in the 4th.

delo
April 26th, 2008, 9:50:51 PM
caldwell would be a great pick our needs dictate LB , TE , FB

admarc
April 26th, 2008, 9:51:44 PM
TE should be the target in the 3rd. There are plenty of good ones left.

Brad Cottam, Martin Rucker, Craig Stevens, Jermichael Finley, Kellen Davis and Gary Barnidge.

Of the remaining bunch, Cottam intrigues me the most.

Avril!

BillzRyan
April 26th, 2008, 10:36:11 PM
TE has to be on the radar, especially if Rucker is still available at that point. Connor is certainly someone to keep in mind as well, as he would probably fall into that "best player available" label if he's still there tomorrow morning.

That said, I'm satisfied with the Day 1 action. The team has drafted quality talent for two of the more glaring needs we have. Maybe not as exciting and/or "sexy" as the KC draft, but we're getting players who fit what we've been asking for.

Looking forward to getting up in the morning and continuing the process. GO BILLS!

zootvman
April 26th, 2008, 10:39:10 PM
Definitely center or tight end. Rucker is probably the Bills highest rated TE, but who knows what center they like.

The more I think about it, the more I think the Bills will take the best available tight end in the 3rd round...and a center in the 4th.

kdhammond
April 27th, 2008, 6:50:27 AM
While I like Cottam at TE, I think there are going to be better players available at positions of maybe lesser need:

LB: Dan Connor, Erin Henderson and Xavier Adibi
RB: Kevin Smith, Tashard Choice and Jamaal Charles
WR: Early Doucet, Andre Caldwell and Earl Bennett
S: DaJuan Morgan
CB: Tyvon Branch, Reggie Smith, Justin King and Charles Godfrey

Of the bunch, I might be tempted to ignore the offense (again) and take
DaJuan Morgan. He is touted as a starting-calibre S who is good against
both run and pass and one long-time draft "expert" (Frank Coyle) calls him
the best special teams player in the draft.

They still could use another CB, even with having drafted McKelvin. I might be early doing so, but I've kind of written off Youboty, so if you believe that then they have only McGee, Greer, William James and McKelvin at CB. Another one certainly wouldn't hurt and someone like Reggie Smith could maybe slide over to safety, too.

I think a case could be made for any of the players listed above, though and
I could really be on-board with another good RB to share some of the load
with Marshawn Lynch. I know that Freddie Jackson looked OK-to-good last
year, but another really good RB sharing time with Lynch to keep him fresh
and extend his career would be a nice investment.

The receivers intrigue me, but with Evans, Hardy, Parrish and Reed already
here, it might be a bit of over-kill. Still, Doucet and Bennet really are interesting highly productive WRs....

Unlike many here, I am not groovin' on the remaining Cs. I don't see them as obvious upgrades over Fowler and I don't see Fowler as a big problem that needs fixing.

I'd vote for waiting until the 4th for maybe another big DT, someone like Red Bryant or Athyba Rubin...

First Rucker at TE if he is there. Then I would like a big DT to back up Stroud. If the defense is going to be built around one big fat guy and a penetrater, we need a back up for Stroud.

Center - back up to mold into a starter, another oline back up Then best avaliable.
Throw in a DE to replace H(G)Hargrove & this draft could turn out as good if not a tad better than last

I know that's high expectations but we got James Hardy!!!

Back to the Ellis pick: think back to last season and the problems we at at DE depth, be it b/c of injury to a player or suspension. We were grabbing guys off the street to fill in, so I have no issue with the Bills addressing this w/ their 3rd pick. My hope his that our staff can get this guy to play to the max of his ability. If he can do that, we ot ourselves a great pick, early 2nd round type talent in the 3rd.

I'm not a fan of the "tweener" type guys, and if he stays as a DE, I like them to be more versatile than playing 15 snaps a game. Of course if he can come in and get the pressure we need than that would make this pick a valuable one. Lets see the kid bulk up a bit.
