Psalm 103
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Praise for the LORD’S Mercies.
A Psalm of David.
1 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And all that is within me, bless His holy name.
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits;
3 Who pardons all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases;
4 Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion;
5 Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.
6 The LORD performs righteous deeds And judgments for all who are oppressed.
7 He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the sons of Israel.
8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.
9 He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever.
10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him.
12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. 13 Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
14 For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust.
15 As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16 When the wind has passed over it, it is no more, And its place acknowledges it no longer.
17 But the lovingkindness of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children,
18 To those who keep His covenant And remember His precepts to do them.
19 The LORD has established His throne in the heavens, And His sovereignty rules over all.
20 Bless the LORD, you His angels, Mighty in strength, who perform His word, Obeying the voice of His word!
21 Bless the LORD, all you His hosts, You who serve Him, doing His will.
22 Bless the LORD, all you works of His, In all places of His dominion; Bless the LORD, O my soul!
How utterly awesome is our god. It does not matter the sins you have committed in your life. If you accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior, and ask him to forgive you or your sins, he will cast them as far as the east is from the west. Our god is amazing. I call on any doubters of god, who might want to accept christ into their lives to think about that. You can have your sins cast from your soul. It does not matter how great your sin was. God can redeem you. I will pray for you. God Is Great.

Really? You can be a jerk your whole life ,then repent and everything is OK. Why have a god then if we are going to the same place.

Because it's through the Blood of Jesus Christ that we can call upon the lord to ask for forgiveness.
If you do not do that, then we won't be going to the same place.

I hope to spark some conversation about this. In church now, we are having a series on god's eraser.

Why have a god then if we are going to the same place.You can do that, but in your place in heaven, should you decide to confess your sins and take the Eucharist or Holy Unction should you not be able to do so for unforseen injuries.
You will be surrounded by 70 Rosie O'Donnell's, who will take care of your every need.
God doesn't like *******'s who take advantage of vulnerable housewives.
But, by all means, have some fun.

Advocates of mass murder are going straight to ****ing hell.
That much I do know. (if there is a God)
One's HEART is reflected in one's deeds and spoken word.
Not in "I'm sorry I killed a bunch of people or cheered on the killing of a bunch of people Jesus but WTF, I am a sinner and I believe in you".
The atheist that gives his life to mankind stands a much better chance of entering the pearly gates.
What a bunch of crap. Talk about misreading the bible.

Do you fear the Lord?
Psalm 23
A psalm of David.
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, [a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.

Is this going to be a pissing match on who goes to church the most etc. etc.?
12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
The thing with the bible is it left up to interpretation. I think there are at least three degrees of interpretation of the bible (or any other great work of literature, for that matter).
1. The first degree, or the most extreme is to take the Bible as word, literally. In other words, reading at the surface level.
The example above would probably be interpreted as what it says...whatever you do, which ever sins you commit during your time on Earth will be washed away just as easily, as long as you take the Lord Jesus Christ, as your savior. I believe that is the literal reading of that psalm.
The second degree, I think, is collaborating with other learned individuals to determine a consensus meaning. You're not exactly going on your own interpretation as you are looking to others (sometimes priests, pastors, etc. or other religiously devoted individuals) for guidance in interpretating the Bible.
Under this degree, the above example may be interpreted as probably a conservative or reasonable conclusion. That is, God is a forgiving God and will absolve you of your sins that you may have committed in a time of weakness, whereas you may have lived an all together decent life, you did something immoral, but you will be forgiven, as long as you take Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior or whatever.
The third degree is just as extreme as the first which is a person takes all liberties in interpreting the Bible. There is no limitations on how they interpret the Word, just as long as it suits their life style. The people who interpret the Bible at this level picks and chooses what they want to believe.

Really? You can be a jerk your whole life ,then repent and everything is OK..
yes
but the repentance has to be authentic and profound
Advocates of mass murder are going straight to ****ing hell.
That much I do know. (if there is a God)
all sins can be forgiven without condition
but that doesnt mean you dont still have to pay the price, at least corporeally. if your authentic and profound repentance for raping torturing and killing an entire pack of girlscouts happens while my hand is on the chair button i will truly forgive you. but youre still gonna die
Why have a god then if we are going to the same place.
there is no 'place'. both heaven and hell are in the here and now. the common usage you are referring to are simply metaphors to make it easier to understand
Because it's through the Blood of Jesus Christ that we can call upon the lord to ask for forgiveness.
If you do not do that, then we won't be going to the same place.
ridiculous
thats ritual and superstition
anyone of any faith including atheism can be fully enlightened, or 'saved' in your vernacular
christ could give a damn whether you accept him or not. he wants you to accept the way he and others have been trying to teach you since the dawn of mankind. thats how you get saved
if thats what it takes for you to act in a christlike/buddalike/mohammadlike manner thats fine. but your superstitions arent what saves you. its whats going on in your heart and mind
Just free your mind of thought and you will experience god.
if you mean that you create your own barriers to 'god' (ie understanding) with preconceived notions and poisoned ideas, i agree
otherwise im not following
What is the meaning when Jesus said "look at the lillies... They grow but do not toil and spin?"
he meant that instead of having a stranglehold grip on life and always desperately trying to control the uncontrollable that you instead align yourself with the flow of the natural universe and trust that things are proceeding exactly as designed. this relieves you of the burden that you have to have every answer and instead can become the 'empty rice bowl' just waiting to be filled that buddhism teaches is the proper way to observe and operate in this world
I believe it is look at the wonder of the lillies that grow and prosper without worrying, fighting or thought.
Lillies don't have a past or future... they just grow.
It's part of the wonder of all things in the essence of what is god.
not bad. not bad at all
