Has anyone else had one? What's the timeline for recovery? What can/can't you do in the first few weeks?

I had double hernia surgery, but it was a long time ago. The made about 4 inch incisions on both sides. I was out of it for a couple weeks, couldn't really do much. I know the procedure has changed quite a bit since then, so good luck.

My father just had one done recently. I know he was out of work for 4-6 weeks.

Just take it easy. Buy some video games and/or some boxed sets of a couple of TV series'. That'll keep ya busy.

Hey bro. Good luck and have a fast recovery.

Don't fret about being on the slab. I've been there 3 times and it's no big deal. The anethesiologist pumps your IV with some liquid goof, you close your eyes, and *poof*, you wake up in post-op.

Then the nurse comes to you with a little "candy".

Make sure you thank her before you drool in your pillow. ;)

Thanks all. No probs on worrying about surgery...been there done that a few times already before this one. Of course I was a bit concerned getting it done by a Mil Doc over here in a combat zone. It was very quick and not much in the way of aftercare, but of course they have bigger issues to deal with so I was ok with that. They made 3 incisions one just below the belly button (about 1.5 inches) then one small one about 2 inches below that, then another small one 3 inches below that (got a little close there!) I'm up and about, but slowly. BORED to death!!!

Take some pain medication and dream off. I don't believe it's abusive to enjoy the mellowness if you need it medically. In fact, when the pain stops, I stop the meds.

Glad to hear that you're OK. Are you uncomfortable now?

I had hernia surgery in 2004 to repair a surface hernia from an old abdominal incision I had from a big surgery in 1992. It was a piece of cake. Just be careful to follow what the doctor says about taking it easy from hard physical activity afterwards, otherwise you'll have to repeat the whole process.

If it's a groin hernia especially because he can get a herniated testicle which is agonizing. And you could have ruptured your incision. OUCH!!!!!!

Good point.

I had hernia surgery done recently too(umbilical;luckily, not too bad-and done at the same time as my gallbladder was yanked out)and I just got back to work on Monday.

Timeline was a little bit longer as ticat's-in my case, about 8 weeks, and lifting no more than 20 lb. for 2 weeks beyond that.

Hernia? Surgery? Come on, man up you pus buckets! I had four hernias at the same time, I stuffed my innards back in with the bottom of a beer bottle and molley bolted them to keep it from happening again.

I had a hernia when I was 2 years old.

...too much heavy lifting maybe.

I'm 36, and I've never recovered.

good luck.

Mine was in Iguinal hernia...Doc said it could have been something waiting to happen for years but finally caught up with me. I was at the gym about half hour before I started to feel the pain...came home took a shower and almost buckled over. Drove myself to the clinic just before the real pains began. They're telling me 4 weeks and no lifting more than 10lbs for at least that time....THAT SUCKS!!!

Thanks for the Weblink. Like I said I'm not "in country", lol. I'm in a combat zone and Hernia's are far from priority with the surgeons here. They do the cut, fix and that's about it. Hell, I didn't even have stitches, they glued my shit back together which I'm not too pleased with because it looks like I'm gonna have some weird scarring.
