Jesus.

Tell me something that I don't know.

But here's something for a few of you guys. Your news is a gov't mouthpiece.

How this got past the Blueblood Times editors astounds me. But hey, even filtering 99.999% of the news once in a blue moon an honest beat reporter is not going to get his story spiked.

Behind TV Analysts, Pentagon’s Hidden Hand

n the summer of 2005, the Bush administration confronted a fresh wave of criticism over Guantánamo Bay. The detention center had just been branded “the gulag of our times” by Amnesty International, there were new allegations of abuse from United Nations human rights experts and calls were mounting for its closure.

The administration’s communications experts responded swiftly. Early one Friday morning, they put a group of retired military officers on one of the jets normally used by Vice President Dick Cheney and flew them to Cuba for a carefully orchestrated tour of Guantánamo.

To the public, these men are members of a familiar fraternity, presented tens of thousands of times on television and radio as “military analysts” whose long service has equipped them to give authoritative and unfettered judgments about the most pressing issues of the post-Sept. 11 world.

Hidden behind that appearance of objectivity, though, is a Pentagon information apparatus that has used those analysts in a campaign to generate favorable news coverage of the administration’s wartime performance, an examination by The New York Times has found.

The effort, which began with the buildup to the Iraq war and continues to this day, has sought to exploit ideological and military allegiances, and also a powerful financial dynamic: Most of the analysts have ties to military contractors vested in the very war policies they are asked to assess on air.

Ohh man. You guys have got to read this.

This is rich.

Gubmint agents in the media spreading pro- War on Terror and pro- Iraq War propaganda?

Why this is the US government!!! The sweetest, nicest, most noble little bastards on earth.

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think this was put out on purpose now that I think of it.

These people know it's an election year. They'd rather not have to rely on Diebold if they can help it.

So tell me folks. Why do still trust the news?

A lie.

It's corporate media. And apparently very easily influenced by the military/industrial complex.

Doug. This is, in my opinion, a Watergate, Pentagon Papers caliber scandal.

This is the biggest news break in years. The government performing psychological operations on its citizens through agents planted in the major networks.

(I have to wonder how many were "planted" or if that is plausible deniability for the big 5)

Sorry Pete. It's important to be sure, but there's no way it'll get enough play. (breathless) the Primary day in PA is here!!

Maybe that's why they released it today? To water it down?

They actually released it/published it on sunday, though the story was already out on sat evening.

I'm surprised it took you so long to find it :)

And after the last seven years, I'm surprised anyone would even be shocked by this. This would probably rank in the lower end of their egregious offenses.

Mik. We know they do it. Just why yawn when you have a smoking gun?

Really? Is that what you have become? Passive and resolved to "this is the way it is"?

Say it ain't so.

But then again the Democans aren't gonna do a DAMN thing about it. I'll PROMISE you that.

Pete, the NY Times is hardly a government mouthpiece. Niether is the Washington Post.

From this comment I can very obviously infer that you neither read the expose nor watched the videos.

Moonie. Please do.

Thanks.

I don't know Pete, what do we do?
I call my senators and house reps all the time, e-mail them write them letters and write letters to the editor, lots of people do, and it sure doesn't appear to be helping.

And yeah I think the dems suck for not impeaching this junta in the WH, but maybe they just don't have the votes, though thats a sorry ass excuse IMHO.

Or maybe the Bushites have shit on everyone from spying on them the last 7 years.

The media is so in the pocket of the administration, they don't question or report on anything. Why is that? I can only guess. Look what happened to Dan Rather or to the head of QWest for refusing to go along with their illegal spying program back in 2001, pre-9/11 mind you.

So whats the answer? The media don't even report anymore, and even if they did most Americans are oblivious anyways. I came to the conclusion that most Americans are happily ignorant when they re-elected Nixon in '71. And we even had real news back then. Now its just a disaster.

But at least there were enough honest republicans back then that they would have voted to impeach, which led to Nixons resignation. Now theres not an honest one amongst them. They'll sell out their country and our constitution, so long as they can retain or attain power.
Its a ****ing sad state of affairs.

It's ****ing sad that I had to give you a "thanks" for this post.

Even anEin gave this "Watergate" caliber story a big yawn.

I think the jigs up.

We're ****ed when even the Libertarians don't give a shit.

I think they are resolved to taking it deep in the ass like the rest of them. Fight over the crumbs, instead of the pie.

So sad. And I am deeply disappointed. Just goes to show you how stupid, deluded, blind, and complacent 95% of the posters here are. It's pathetic if you ask me.

Not talking to you Mik. But to my fellow regulars here in the PRS. SHAME ON YOU.

You're a bunch of pussies. Now bend over wimps.

He declared an immoral and illegal war while the rest of the world told you to **** off.

Being angry about getting manipulated seems petty. Your country still owes the rest of the world an apology.

But it's a hand in the cookie jar situation and we have an opprotunity to make some penance with an impeachment of higher officials.

Instead Jimmi. We let out a collective yawn. That's sad.

As opposed to, say, Saul Alinsky et al doing it?

Besides, I consider the New York Times to be a domestic network psyop.

That so? I'm sorry we didn't tell y'all to pound sand sooner.

Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. Why don't you get a little angry that your government is manipulating you instead of rationalizing it for your party's sake.

Because that's exactly what your response is based on.

You actually listened to the military experts and believed everything they said? I listen to the military experts and understand they are pro-war and are/were biased towards that. This stomping of your feet about every little "issue" you can make up is getting a tad bit old. You are going to have to change your shitk to keep people discussing your issues here in PR&S.
