Ok guys just thought some may be interested in this chart before the draft started as to see what values there were for trade ups/downs and what we would have to get(for a trade down) or give up to climb back in early. The charts can vary some but they normally dont by a lot and compensation may not always be the full value but will normally be pretty close.

I said it last year, but i'll say it again.

This chart needs to be updated!! For instance, nobody wants the 1st pick anymore because of the massive contract it will take to sign the player. It's worth 2300 points more than pick #5. The Chiefs would have to give up just about their whole draft to move up based on the chart.
I don't think the thing has been updated since Jimmy Johnson busted it out. Could be wrong though. Times change...it needs some tweaking.

I agree. The #1 pick is a disasterous thing to have. They need to change the point values until the NFL instituties a set rookie pay scale. The contracts should be much smaller and they should be set in stone such that there is no negotiation whatsoever. If you're the #1 pick you get xxx dollars and that's that.

What will happen is that teams will just accept less to trade out of the position they are in. Look at how many round 1 draft picks don't work out, especially QB. Not that any position is a can't miss position but RB, DE, LB, SS, seem to be the safest bets with WR and CB the next safest. I would never want to draft an OL, QB, or DT with the top picks.

It's a shame the NFL can't duplicate the NBA's rookie salary structure. The only problem with that is the shorter contracts.

One thing Ive noticed, there isnt much difference between trading up to pick 8 (If Sedrick Ellis or Glenn Dorsey are there) then there is trading back into the late 1st.

You trade your 1st and a 3rd for the 8th pick, or you trade your 2nd and 3rd for a late 1st.

i think thats why in the past few years the Bills have been so willing to do just that

The only time it's good to have the first overall pick is if there is a slam dunk for sure this guy is going to be great player, like a Peyton Manning. This is the worst year to have the pick, I'm just glad it happened to the Dolphins.
