Last season the weather was beautiful in Western New York leading up to the Bisons opener. The night before everyone had shorts on and was out enjoying the spring weather. But then came the rains for the Thursday opener, forcing the game to be postponed. Well over the next three days the Bisons had cold temps, rain, and snow forcing the whole series vs. Richmond to be postponed. Two games were made up when the Bisons visited Richmond, two were never played.
So what's happening this year? The weather today was great and more of the same expected tomorrow. But come Friday for the opener, rain and a high of 497Saturday, more rain and a high of 49. Sunday, yet more rain and snow with a high of 42. Monday, rain and snow with a high of 40. Why am I thinking we could lose the whole Toledo series? I thought with the team playing the first eight games on the road the weather would be better when they got home, but it don't look that way.

I thought Mother Nature was a Bisons fan after the 2004 Governor's Cup when Richmond got so much rain The Diamond was flooded and the whole series had to be played in Buffalo. The Bisons were only supposed to play games one and two in Buffalo and games three, four and five in Richmond. That stopped us in our road trip planning and saved us lots of time.
Well, we have been paying for it ever since with our home openers. In 2005 we all got to the ballpark for the 4PM opener, but about 5PM the Bisons realized the rain was not going to stop and the game was postponed. In 2006 it was a beautiful day for the game. The game went off, but for me it was not good because the Bisons were starting at 6PM. The Bandits played a 7:30PM game at home, so I only got to stay at the ballpark for about 1:15. As I stated about 2007 was four days late and in front of about as many people as Richmond had last night, and this year looks no better.

This sucks. I planned on going to the Bisons game Saturday afternoon, then heading right to Rochester afterwards for the Bandits game. It was going to be a great sports day, but if it's 40 degrees out, and if they even play, I can't see myself sitting outside for the afternoon. This blows.

Then it had better be a steady rain, not the type that "plagued" New York so much that the Yanks couldn't get their Opening Day game in against the Blue Jays. Hell,in 1996 they played through a steady snowfall. Now a light drizzle is enough to make them say "aw,screw it...we'll play tomorrow?" As Ozzie Guillen would say...."Psshh! Please."
As for the weekend...latest predictions are: Friday might be a wash,Saturday looks to be OK during the day as do Sunday and Monday-rain all three days at night. The Syracuse homestand looks to be much better, with temperatures climbing up again.

That is my plan for Saturday. Baseball during the day and leaving for Rochester after the game.

You think the schedulers would plan to have Charlotte, Richmond, Durham, Norfolk, Indianapolis and Louisville host early April games until Spring begins to take a firmer hold.

They really should merge the IL and PCL

The IL has teams open at home every other year. Yeah it makes since to us in the North to open in Richmond and places like that, but to them it is cold down there too and their attendence is no better. Heck it has been warmer in Buffalo then Richmond the last two days.

Why? That would kill the teams in travel. Now teams in the IL can take buses most places. Of if they have to fly like Buffalo to Norfolk, then they bus it up to Richmond. Yeah the IL gets screwed because they have to fly most places, but at least they don't have to fly to Buffalo or Allentown PA. I think the championship should be a five game series with the leagues switching home field every year. The whole rule that is killing that is minor league baseball has to be done by September 20. If they ever scrapped that rule and the expanded roster rules you could have a kick ass championship of Triple A baseball.
