Several Sabres will represent their countries in next month's Hockey World Championship.
Jason Pominville and Paul Gaustad will skate for the U.S. Goalie Ryan Miller hasn't decided yet if he'll play. Derek Roy will play for team Canada.

Jochen Hecht declined to play for Germany. Hecht will have surgery performed on his left wrist. Hecht says that he's been playing injured since January. Kotalik will play for the Czech Republic. Thomas Vanek will play in Pool 'B' for Austria.

Henrik Tallinder said "No" to Sweden. Tallinder has hasn't had a chance to properly train for 2 off seasons and wants to go into next year prepared. Numminen (Finland) and Max Afinogenov (Russia) have not yet decided if they'll play in the tournament.

Some nice representation there. Also nice to see Tallinder decline in order to train for next year. This also answers the question of whether Pominville could represent USA at the Olympics. He can. :usaflag:

Wow, I can't wait for the Winter Olympics. We might actually have a decent shot with some of the young guns we have, and savvy vets.

Now with him agreeing to play for USA in this tourney, he cannot play for canada in the olympics b/c he chose a citizenship?

Yeah. Once you play for one country in international play thats it.

Paul Statsny of the Avalanche did so in Juniors, so he made up his mind early.

Pominville is a USA member from here on out in international play.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to that, although it's not likely I'll be able to watch the games live. Those tickets will be mucho expensive!!! I might have to content myself to watching the lower pools or another sport altogther.

Pax.

Awesome representation. I'm glad Tallinder is trying to get his head out of his ass. Miller will probably back up Dipietro.

Anyone know what "pool B" means?

Russia is winning it none the less.

Imagine trying to stop a powerplay that looks like this

Gonchar-Markov
Ovechkin-Datysuk-Malkin

Nice to see the Goose get some love, I hope Millsy sits it out, he could use the R&R, Pommers will look real good in Red, White & Blue.

None of those 5 are likely to be there as they all made the NHL play-offs. If they get knocked out in the first round they might be added to the roster.

The US will play the first round in group B with Switzerland, Slovakia & Russia.
