OK, what do you REALLY think?
1. Certainly female announcers belong in the NHL, this is the 21st century, and the NHL is keeping up with the times.
2. Nahhh, hockey is a man's sport, women have no place in the announcers booth.
3. Who cares?? Eye candy is great regardless of what she says.

If she makes intelligent comments, then I don't care if she looks like Rob Ray. Hockey commentators are better then football, but both are slipping.

Do you mean sideline reporters? I dont think the NFL or college football have females in the booth. The only times Ive seen a female in the booth for a male sport is for college basketball.
I believe VS. and CBC have female reporters.

Cassie Campbell has been doing colour on HNIC (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/story/2006/10/14/campbell-hockey-analyst.html) since 2006.

Uggh I absolutely hate Pam Ward who does the noon game on ESPN2 for college football. She tries to make her voice sound like a mans... it is aggravating.

yeah i don't know what to think about it. I am all for equality of sexes but i think it seems forced often when a women is announcing male sports. It is not natural. Women and men are different for a reason. Lets stop trying to make them the same. Women will never play in any mens professional league (unless we start messing with biology).
So why have them announce?
Women should announce womens sports and men should announce mens sports.
And i would much rather listen to an ugly women talk about sports than an attractive one. I know the only reason that attractive women is on the screen is to appeal to desperate men. When is the last time you saw an ugly bitch being paid to be on TV in front of a predominately male audience?

Damn, she is bigger than Nate Gerbe.
The five-foot-seven, 150-pound blue-liner scored 32 goals and 68 assists in 157 career games for the national team.

Chris Mortenson. Hey, we're talking about vaginas here, right?

I've seen a couple of games that Cassie Campbell has done. She knows her stuff, but she's still getting her feet wet with the play-by-play commentary. She's a bit green, but I think she'll be ok with some games under her belt.

It's like an orchestra of cats scratching a thousand blackboards.
She's like Hillary Clinton light.
Fck waterboarding. They should just have Pam Ward and Hillary perform GoGo's covers and the detainees will turn into instant rats.

Seriously though, I've heard Cami Granato on the "sidelines" at games and she was very good, and not bad looking as I remember.
And that girl Goalie, what was it, Manon Reaume (sp)? She was hot, but a total bitch (met her once.)
There have to be a few hot female ex- Olympic hockey players out there.
Just keep them the HELL out of the booth.

Why would she do play by play when she's clearly brought in to be the colour commentator ?

I am a former phys Ed major. So I am well educated on title IX, and actually believe women are capable of anything a man does.
Does that mean I want to hear them in the booth in any sport? Hell NO!
Keep them on the sidelines. I will go as far to say that they don’t even have to be hot. They are better served if they know what the hell they are talking about.
If I want hot chic’s I’ll look at the cheerleaders.

Sorry Riley if that ruffled your feathers. I would overall say I am not totally against it. I like Susan Waldman who does color on the Yankees radio broadcast. Cassie Campbell has been competent. Again they have a natural voice, they don't sound like they have been taking testosterone. If they are intelligent, sound natural and offer good insight I am fine with women in the booth.

Susan Waldman has a natural voice? Yikes!
Robin Roberts, ok.
Chris McKendry, very ok.
Susan Waldman? Not so much.

Put down the crack pipe, Chris.
Ever watch a women's college basketball game? It's like watching men play if they took barbiturates before the game.
See any Major League pitchers named Susan?
NFL Running Backs named Shirley?

You're right. I got the wrong term. She was filling in for Greg Millen for a Leafs game with Bob Cole.

Haha
Nice. Listen Moon, I agree with what your saying on the professional level. I was speaking more about the High School and College level. One day you will have a beautiful young girl and want her to have all the opportunities she is capable of reaching. (As long as she doesn’t become a pro sport announcer)
Haha Who am I kidding.. You end up with good lookin kids? ;)

If she's knowledgable and well spoken, then why not? Plus if she's not that makes it even better. Wan't Cammie Granato doing some ice-level reporting for NBC?

Kathryn Tappen on NESN beats 95% of the male Hockey personalities out there. Not only is she beautiful but she has an incredible knowledge of the game.

Then there's TSN's Jennifer Hedger.
She used to be my neighbour @ 12 years ago when I lived in London. She was going to Western and doing a Cable TV show at the time.

Holy cow, blast from the past, D3! I remember some of those shows. I think what really helped get Hedger the TSN job were her appearances on Off the Record. Landsberg seemed really impressed with her.
Nicely done in bringing that back.
Pax.
