The pitching staff should be the strong point of the Buffalo Bisons this year. Three young studs will anchor the rotation and a pen that should dominate.

Adam Miller, Aaron Laffey and Jeremy Sowers will all have long major league careers, and are all down in Buffalo to start the season. Miller was impressive last year when he was healthy, which was not all that often last season. Aaron Laffey was the ace of the staff last year and almost an automatic win. Sowers was awful last season after coming down from Cleveland where he was rocked all season long. But in the 06 season, Sowers dominated in Triple A, bring back memories of Bartolo Colon and Fausto Carmona pitching for the Bisons. He then went up to Cleveland and pitched well enough to earn a spot in the rotation. Rounding out the Herds rotation will probably be Jeff Harris and Brian Slocum.

The pen should be just as good as the starters. Back with the Bisons is Tom Mastny and Edward Mujica. If you would have told any Bisons fan a few years ago that Mastny and Mujica would be back in 08 I think they would have thought you were nuts. The two should make one heck of a setup and closer combo. Add in vetrans Matt Ginter, Scott Elarton, Sean Smith and Bubbie Buzachero for middle relief and spot starts and it will be tough to score runs againts the Herd.

I'm really looking forward to an excellent Bisons season, with what the Indians have sent to us...excellent pitchers, plus Ben Francisco and other good position players. Of course, if the Indians have injuries, all that could change... BUT, that's the main reason I wish we could keep the Indians affiliation... we usually have a VERY competitive team here!

Certainly the roster will change during the season, that is the nature of Triple A baseball. I am sure Sowers, Miller and Laffey, plus Mujica and Mastny will all get called up at some point of the season. Some will stay up and others will be sent back down, depending if the Tribe needs a spot start or something long term.
