No offense to Rick and Harry...but I miss Ted Darling calling the Sabres games on TV.

Who remembers what he would say when a puck would go into the stands? " And there is a souvenir for a lucky fan from Cheektowaga/South Buffalo/ Williamsville/etc!!!" The "fan nets" were not behind the goals in those days...so many pucks would go into the crowd. I remember being a little kid and wondering how Ted knew where all those people were from (LOL)!!

It's too bad that "younger" Sabres fans of today either never heard him call a game or barely remember it.

Thanks, Ted. You were the best!!!

Remember he did a game during the Blizzard of '77 that was played in Montreal from his living room by watching his TV and broadcasting over a telephone! I always thought that was amazing.

I remember Ted's voice from my childhood. I remember when he started to lose it, my Dad said he was just an alcoholic and was drunk when he'd forget names and things. It was much sadder to find out the truth posthumously. He was a great commentator and from all accounts a great man.

It was much sadder to find out the truth posthumously. He was a great commentator and from all accounts a great man. That rumor was spread by former Sabres PR man Paul Weiland. His career was ended when the truth was found out.
