Jim Veltman will play last game in Buffalo today barring a playoff game here between the Rock and Bandits. So should the Bandits retire the former Bandits number? He was probably the second biggest reason for the championships behind that #11 guy. Darris' 43 is already retired, there is no doubt that JT's 11 will be retired and maybe Richie's 16. I think Veltman's 32 deserves to be on the carpet (or in the rafters where the retired numbers should be). Yeah he did not play his whole career here, but either did Darris. I just doubt the Bandits would have won three championships, or had an undefeated season with Jimmy V picking up all the loose balls.

Nah, I don't think so. Hes spent much more time as a member of the Rock. I know I was younger when the Bandits started and were winning titles, but he just comes off as a Rock player to me. I do remember him playing in Buffalo, especially in '96, but I wouldn't retire his number here.

Alot of people want some kind of ceremony or something for him here tonight, that would be stupid, a simple message to the crowd and some applause would be fitting, but nothing more. He still has played for Toronto the last 10 years and is still on their team now, and we need to beat their asses tonight.

I honestly think Veltman should be honored by Buffalo next season-not necessarily with his number being retired, but something should be done to thank him for his years of service to the team.

If any team's going to retire his jersey,Toronto should get that honor. The bulk of his career was spent with the Rock, and to the casual fan,he's more identified with the Rock than he is with the Bandits. (Then again, there are cases of multiple teams retiring a player's jersey number;Nolan Ryan comes to mind right off the bat-3 teams have retired his number.)

I agree with BR11 on this one. I would have liked to see a short announcement and a round of applause for V at the start of Saturday's game, but that would have been enough for me. If his 32 is retired, it should be retired by the Rock, where he made a much larger contribution than he did here. Sure, Darris didn't play his whole career here, but he only played the last year or two for a different team, not the last 10 years. Jimmy V is a Rock now, he's not a Bandit. Darris always was and always will be a Bandit.
