Who?

Charles Schilens was a target for Josh Johnson at San Diego State. He missed a good chunk of his senior season to a stress fracture. However, he came back to notch 389 yards in two games late in the season.

Oh yeah, he's a 6'4" WR who ran a sub 4.4 at his pro day. Interested yet? He also had a 43 inch vertical jump. That might come in handy in the end zone. At the moment he's the 53rd rated WR according to NFLDraftScout.com and a likely UDFA, but he's rising up the boards. At the very least, I would think the Bills might want to be ready to sign him on Sunday, April 27 when the last team has made its last compensatory pick. If the Bills haven't drafted themselves a good tall receiver earlier on, maybe they ought to take a flier on this guy in the 7th.

Give this guy some confidence by actually drafting him even if it is our last pick. Then he can actually say he was drafted into the NFL!!!! He looks good but I would still be worried about that injury but if he isn't used much then he should put less strain and stay healthier.

those measurables are sick...

Im all aboard the Chaz train...

wooo hooooo...

seems like a big game kinda guy too...

14 catches over the last two games for almost 200 yds and a TD is nice...

that one of those performances was against the #9 D in the nation is a plus...

he is officially on the radar...

I could be happy not getting a WR in the first three rounds or so if you told me we could land 3 of these 4 Nelson/Franklin/Henry/Schilens after that...

Here's an article on Schilens from October 2006 that helps to explain why he production was held down in both his sophomore and junior years. Essentially San Diego State's QB position looked like a MASH unit for two years.

If you read through the article, it does say some nice things about him;

“I have a lot of respect for Chaz; he's an awesome football player,” Craft said. “With his size and speed, he can be very valuable to a football team. What he brings to our offense is something special.”

“It's never easy when you're playing with a different quarterback every week, but Chaz is really starting to come on,” said coach Chuck Long. “It takes time to develop a rhythm, not only for a wide receiver working with a new quarterback, but for a quarterback to develop that timing with the wide receiver."

“As badly as I want to do well from a personal standpoint, it's still better for the team to win,” Schilens said. “I'm always going to put winning ahead of any personal goals. Having a winning season and being part of a winning team is something I've never experienced. If I can contribute to making that happen, that would be a much better scenario than any personal goals I could ever set for myself.”

Last fall Schilens missed four games due to a stress fracture, and it looks like at least a couple additional games were affectect by it. He only player a few games as a freshman and had no catches (He only played two years of high school football) In spite of missing four games, he had his best season with 35 receptions for 679 yards. For his career he had 103 receptions for 1603 yards. Here's the best site I found for his stats.

I should make one correction. His QB was not Josh Johnson. It was Kevin O'Connell, when he was healthy at least.

Sounds like a great prospect from the quote and from the numbers (man they are sick)...Good find.

I like this guy a lot....hopefully we take a shot at him today...if not an UDFA if hes still available...Bringing in two receivers at 6'6'' and 6'4'' that could burn would be nazzzzzzzty
