I can't take many more games like this. Miller gives up 4 on 19 including his first SOG from an unscreened LW shot. A 2 SOG performance in the 2nd period and then the heart attack in the 3rd. These guys will put me in an early grave damnit, but I like it!

To be fair, a Randy Cunneyworth led team would have won 9-4 and a Ted Nolan team would have won 2-1 with Miller making 75 saves, but it would have been with so much spunk and vigor it would have felt like a 3-1 victory.

A Rick Dudley-led team would have lost 2-1, but quadrupled the 'Ning in hits.
Those teams had so much jam you could call them Smuckers.

...being at the game tonight and the crowd booing the Sabres in the waning seconds of the second period...the only thing I could think of to turn it around would be Lindy Ruff.
He must have kicked some serious ass in that locker room.

The title of this thread should be, "poor Lindy Ruff. This team is talentless and does not deserve to be in the playoffs." All 4 of Tampa's goals were scored off mistakes, lazy play, and poor decisions through the first 40 minutes. Buffalo's superior talent pulled the game out in the 3rd.

Neither of them would still have the Sabres out of the playoffs, or needing a 4-1 comeback in the 3rd period of such an important game.

The fact that you honestly believe that about a coach that has zero NHL coaching experience is really and truely pathetic. In every sense of the word. One of the worst posts of the decade.

Not to mention an NHL coach with one career playoff series win who currently has motivated his team to eleven points out of the playoffs in the age of NHL parity.

NO, i think you are taking it wrong. The Sabres are the highest scoring team in the league. They are 1 of only two teams in the top 18 5 on 5 goals for / against who are not currently in the playoffs. With this amount of talent, probably 75% of the coaches in the league right now would have the Sabres in the playoffs right now.

Goals per game: Buf = 3.14(1st) / NYI 2.34(30th)
5-5 F/A: Buf = 1.13 (6th) / NYI .88 (25th)
Can we stop pretending that Nolan and Ruff are playing with an equal deck, or that the Sabres are actually in a playoff spot presently?

The last time Ruff and Nolan had an "equal deck," Nolan sent that team home in the 2nd round as a 2nd seed and Ruff took them to the Stanley Cup finals as a 7th seed.

Hardly equal. Aside from the experience and work ethic many of the players gained under Nolan, guys like Barnes and Juneau definitely helped the '99 team. I think the 02-03 team was much closer in talent to Nolan's 97 team was, than the 99 team.

What about the 98 team that Ruff took to the Eastern Conference Finals? What's your excuse for that one, 4 months removed from Nolan? 4 months of rest?

You know that thing you are always completely attributing Nolan's success too? Well, Ruff actually had that all the way through the 98 playoffs.

Are you still in love with Nolan from when he came into the United States and the border cop asked him if he had blood and guts because that's what we wanted in Buffalo? I hope so, that story was a knee slapper.

It's funny, and a little sad, that you can only trot out goal stats for your strange and nonsensical crusade against one of the most respected coaches in the league. Didn't they teach you in high school how misleading statistics can be? How many games have the Sabres run up the score, 10-1, 8-1, 7-3? Those games don't count for any more points in the standings than a 2-1 game. I brought that up in another thread when you were beating those asinine Islander stats into the ground, and you conveniently ignored it.

Bwahahaha. And once again, the Islanders goal scoring stats. Right on cue. You're nothing if not predictable.

The worst part of this entire thread is the fact that there is still Sabres fans that hold on to the Nolan years. Wake up. The Sabres have been better than any of those teams for multiple seasons, and with a different coach. LET IT GO.

Yeah, on here, its pigpen. The other Nolanites still call WGR though.....Unless that's pigpen too! But I don't think pigpen is alone. That makes it even more depressing...or pathetic....or hilarious....whatever.

This thread is an attempt to congratulate Lindy Ruff for his team playing 20 mins of good hockey vs the worst team in the conference with an AHL goalie in net. Look back through it. I didn't bring Nolan's name into it.

Nolan is a great coach but he's the Islanders' coach. So screw him.
Lindy has shown amazing flexibility and adaptability as a coach - the Hasek/Peca era won in a totally different way than the Drury/Briere-led teams. Different system and philosophy. That is one mark of a great coach.
Unfortunately, some posters show much less mental agility than Lindy.

No he isn't. Usually, coaches aren't considered great until they've at least picked up one 2nd round or better playoff victory.

The Canadian media are speculating that Nolan will be out of the Island come summertime. There's a super-duper coach.
Personally, I think it's unfair. No coach on earth could take his team to 13th place as brilliantly or as gracefully as Nolan has. There's always Stamkos, Teddy.

There was once a great poster, was it violetpianist?
Anyways, they predicted Nolan would not last longer than 2 years.
We shall see.

Ted Nolan coaches the greatest 13th place team that civilization has ever seen.
Watching the Isles lose improves your baby's IQ exponentially depending on the number of coach shots the camera shows.

Which, like I said, is possibly the worst post of the decade.....That post, along with jlpubarch saying that Regier messed up because he didn't deal Briere before our Cup run last season. It doesn't get much worse than that.....But, it appears as though you may have achieved an even worse opinion. Congrats.

But the team works so hard and they exemplify a blue collar mentality they're 13th in the standings but 1st in our hearts...
