Devin Thomas is flying up this draft.

Kelly may be there in the early 2nd round.

There was a time when those of us in the mock draft industry thought Oklahoma receiver Malcolm Kelly might go as high as No. 11 overall to the Buffalo Bills. But that was before Kelly decided to skip his pro day because of the thigh injury that also caused him to sit out his combine workouts.

I talked to an AFC scout last night who said that several teams were losing patience with Kelly, who will supposedly perform at a private workout in Norman on April 9. If he has an outstanding showing, Kelly could vault back into the top 20, but right now he's fallen behind Cal's DeSean Jackson and Michigan State's Devin Thomas on many draft boards around the league.

"If the kid's not going to work out, we're not going to touch him in the first round," said the scout. "He may be a star in the league for all I know, but he's not doing himself any favors right now."

Thomas didn't do much at his pro day last week because he'd already posted a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash at the combine. He'll visit with the Bills and Vikings this week. The Cowboys were hoping Thomas would still be on the board for their second pick at No. 28, but that's probably out of the question now. http://myespn.go.com/blogs/hashmarks/0-5-779/Malcolm-in-the-middle--OU-receiver-dropping.html

I have been on that bandwagon from the start.

That just killed my hopes that we could maybe get Thomas with our second round pick. All I can hope for now is that we can trade that 11th pick.

if we don't trade the #11, we're gonna reach big time. We would be much better suited at 20. Someone please, just throw us a bunch of picks :)

The Bills may wind up having to take a WR with the 11th pick, I am not a fan of drafting for need, but with Kelly falling, there are four considerations in round one: Jackson, Sweed, Thomas and Hardy. Jackson isn't a fit and I can't see any of the other three being there much past 22. They may not be able to trade down and still get there guy.

Solution is to take BPA, we should not try to force a pick @11 due to need. Sweed could warrant that #11 pick, but I would just hope for a trade down and if it doesn't happen we take whoever falls. There will be a surprise guy who falls, maybe Dorsey or Ellis.

Modrak made comment before the Combine to the effect that the doctors are often the most important people there.

Dorsey's falling due to injury, or potential injury;
If the Kelly stuff is true, he falls;
I'm sure anyone interested in Sweed wants a pretty good prognosis on the wrist.

How true.

DeSean Jackson is electric. He is a game changer. He is fast. He can play all over the field as a wr. However, doesn't he resemble 2 players we have on the field already? Kind of a hybrid of Lee Evans & Roscoe Parrish. What are we going to do with another smallish, speedy wr?? If they want to advance they need to play in bad weather. Having fast & little guys wont do anything to get us a needed yard or a fade route or a catch in the back of the endzone on 4th and Goal from the 15. if we take DeSean I will assume Lee is gone. That would suck all bad things.

Jackson is a better natural WR then Parrish and a better run after catch player then Evans, but not as consistent a WR as Evans.

The only reason people dont like him is his size.

That said, Devin Thomas' last year was just as good or better as anything Jackson has done, as a WR or return man, the difference is Jackson did it longer. But Thomas has the size.

Lets say the Bills draft Sweed with the 11th pick. When the second round comes along and Kelly is still there would you trade up to get him. That would mean that we would have to give away our second and probably a fourth but having Kelly and Sweed would be pretty insane. Also, I think it is crucial to trade jp bc we could then use the pick to trade up in the first two rounds. I feel that if the Bills want to really make a playoff run they need some serious help on their wideouts and TE. I think that they could get a TE like Cottam in the 3rd and the guy form michigan st in the fourth.
