ORLANDO, Fla. -- PGA Tour player Tripp Isenhour was charged with killing a hawk on purpose with a golf shot because it was making noise as he videotaped a TV show.

Is this really deserving of 14 months in jail (maximum penalty)??

The answer to your question, short and sweet: Yes.

Tripp's alleged act doesn't even compare to that of,say,Randy Johnson and the bird that flew in during a spring training game a few years ago. (You know, the one where a bird flew into the path of one of Randy's pitches and was basically obliterated on the spot.) For that matter, you can't even compare it to Dave Winfield and the time a warm up toss drilled a seagull back when the Blue Jays were playing at Exhibition Stadium.(Though Winfield did face legal action for that act.)

Those were accidental. Tripp's was not.

holy shit - it took this guy 6 shots to hit the Hawk 75yds away! That is an amazing shot! He must have been one hell of a golfer!

As Ozzie Guillen would say,"Psshh! Please."

There's a reason why Tripp's on the Nationwide Tour. He's not good enough to hang with the PGAers.

If dude was on the PGA Tour,he wouldn't have taken 6 shots(ALLEGEDLY)to kill the bird. He'd have taken one. Two at the most.

(Joking/sarcasm mode off.)

No kidding. If this hawk would have seen Tiger Woods squaring up for the shot, he would have taken off like a fat kid in dodge ball!

"I want to let everyone know there was neither any malice nor deliberate intent whatsoever to hit or harm the hawk. I was trying to simply scare it into flying away."

^Bullshit.

Don't drop the soap, Tripp.

HAHAHAHAHA! No shit! But then again NOTHING distracts Tiger from making the shot.

What he did was wrong, and he is going to have to suffer the consequences for his actions, but what a shot.

Sucks cuz all he was trying to do was scare the Hawk away.....

The Hawk should have taken the hint.....and shut the **** up after the first few shots.

Great shot Mr.Isenhour,I wish I could hit a bird at that range !!

If he adopted three cats from the animal shelter, and he lets them outside, he should be hanged. Pet cats who are allowed outside are probably the biggest cause of death among small birds. In parks where there are cats, the bird population is half what it is in public parks where there are no cats. Disclaimer: while the information about cats is factual (as per a visit I made to the local Audobon Society) I don't really believe cat owners who let their cats outside should be prosecuted.

On a serious note, while I think Isenhour should be prosecuted, I think 14 days in the slammer is idiotic. I think a fine would be appropriate. The question I would ask is, "Is it likely that a jail term will make Isenhour less likely to go around killing innocent hawks?" The answer IMO is a resounding "NO!" Therefore, it is a waste of taxpayer dollars to put him in jail. A $5,000 fine would make him think twice, could be donated to the Audobon Society, and might save a hawk or two.

I think there's a law against it. I think there's a term we have for people who willfully disregard laws just because they don't like them.

When you keep doing it until you hit the hawk, and you a professional golfer whose accuracy is a good bit better than mine, and the bird is a protected species, yeah, I'm pretty sure there's a law against it.

This guy is on the nationwide tour....

Buy a ticket (they're cheap) and heckle him when he comes to town... yell in his backswing, protest and cuase general disruption during the tourney... the tour will take the hint, he won't be invited back, and he'll be out of a job for being an idiot.

It would be interesting to see if he can hit me and knock me out before I can hit him with my own projectile.:D

Four!

Seriously though... if this story outrages you it would be very easy to let the golfer and the tour know how you feel.... protesting at a golf tourney would be pretty easy.

Also, how is it that the same people are always on the shitty side of every arguement?

There's a squirrel that comes back to my front yard every spring.

And he has a habit of heclking my cat, making this obnoxious cackle everytime my cat goes near him.

Last summer, I was reading a book outside, on a day off, taking in the sun, and that damn squirrel started up again. So I started tossing acorns at the son of a bitch.

He was a black squirrel.

I didn't hit him though, be he did go away!
