Yesterday morning, during a conference call which the governor of Pennsylvania,Ed Rendell, also participated in(along with Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter-both Clinton backers;Nutter's counterpart in Pittsburgh,Luke Ravenstahl, also backs Clinton),Clinton strategist Mark Penn told reporters that Barack Obama "can't win the general election". Penn tried to weasel out of saying that later on.

OOPS! Nice try,Marky Mark.

USA Today's got you on tape:

And,going from bad to worse(sort of),Gov. Rendell rebutted Penn-saying "Either one of them is going to carry the state in the fall." You can argue that Rendell HAS to hedge his bets,no matter who winds up with the Democratic nod.

One more thing: Penn is the CEO of Burson-Marsteller,a major PR firm in Washington DC. One of his clients: Hillary Clinton. And it owns a subsidary,BKSH,run by Charlie Black-a longtime Republican politico and an advisor to John McCain's campaign. Hmmmm... so Penn benefits if Hillary does well, and Penn's company does well if McCain does likewise. If Obama does well,Penn doesn't get squat. Can you say "conflict of interest"?
