Yeah, he's also a very mundane 55W 54L, 2.61 GAA lifetime in the playoffs, which means in games he wasn't shutting someone out, his GAA was over 3, which means he's either really good or really bad.
Let's not canonize the guy for shutting out a bunch of heartless, gutless euro-trash. Give credit to the defense that yielded a piddling 19 SOG, most of which YOU could have stopped.
No, he doesn't suck, but how many rings does he have? I forgot.

Billy Smith
Johnny Bower
George Hainsworth

Last 1 I'll admit I stretched for but any from this list:
Mike Vernon

Is Cujo 1 of the best goalies ever?
Oh and I guess I responded right after your post. Geez I didn't know I was getting timed. All playoff stats are skewed nowadays because of the # of games they play now. Is Jari Kurri 1 of the greatest playoff performers of all time. Hardly. 14 shutouts at first looks unbelievable but todays goalies have a decided advantage.
No way Cujo is 1 of the best of all time. He's just 1 of the best to play in T.O. and is therefore put into that class. Just like Salming belongs in the hockey HOF, what a joke. Heck that's more than 20 and if you're put below 15 you are not 1 of the greatest especailly considering there was only 6 teams for the 1st 50 years.

I am sick off all this anti-CANADA talk. Cujo is getting better now that his hand is healing and shaking off the rust from not playing in 2 months. Sundin would lead us to the Cup. (It belongs in CANADA anyway, It is just rusting in the u.s.) GO LEAFS GO!!!!

I'm Canadian and I hate all this cheering against AMERICAN TEAMS. Look at Colorado, Detroit, and Carolina. Are Joe Sakic, Blake, Roy, Yzerman, Shanahan, Francis not good Canadians. Most of the players are Canadian yet we cheer against them since they play in the U.S. usually through no choice of their own. It's stupid when Americans cheer against the Raptors or the Blue Jays since most of the players on those teams are Americans. Don't those players deserve to win even though they're on a team that plays outside their country. The Cup belongs to whoever wins it. Right now it's Colorados and it likely will be Detroit's or Colorado's when it's all said and done. The Cup belongs to the team that wins 16 games in the playoffs. Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton etc. have no claim on it since they haven't done enough to win it.
Cujo's been getting better for 10 years yet still no Cup, he has a good chance to get the Leafs to the Finals this year but I suspect they will be cannon fodder for Det. or Col. since both those teams are more talented than the Leafs.

Anti-Canadian, you are starting to sound like Wayne Gretzky...??
I am an Eastern Division fan, so with that said IMO, I don't see anyone remaining from the East beating Detroit, Colorado, or Vancouver in the West. When Toronto was 2 points down in Game 6, they were getting their -sses handed to them in a handbag and were free falling faster than Jamie Nails falling out of the sky with a bag of rocks under each of his arms. When Domi drew that 5 minute penalty and they tied things up, it switched the momentum totally around. The Sens never recovered after that. By the way, the reason the cup is getting rusty over here is because it has been here for so darn long...come get it...PAYCE!!

You are sick of all of all of this Anti-Canadian talk? I am sorry, but I resent that. Just because someone is making a point against your team doesn't mean they have anything against Canada. A good point and case is that I hope the Leafs get beat because I am a Sabre's fan and it is because of the rivalry, nothing else. However, I am pulling for Vancouver (a Canadian team) to beat Colorado. BTW Rude, he is a great playoff goalie and thats what matters now. How a guy does in the first 82 matters little if he does well in the second season. Cujo has to rank right up there but it would sure help his cause if he could lift the Cup.

You have to give him a chance to do great things. No team he ever played for afforded him the opportunity to take home the big trophy. He's been a great payer on sub-par teams. He's a little less that what he was but at 35 he's gettin up there a bit. Reflexes don't last forever folks.

In '93 every Leaf fan I knew thought Cujo was a good goalie but not a big game goalie like Felix. Now that he's a Leaf he is 1 of the best of all time. Hardly. If I had to take any 2 goalies from the last 20 years to win 1 game for me it would be Billy Smith or Roy. Certainly not Cujo.

No one can verify this stat. When Cujo does what Patrick did in '93 and '86(which was take an inferior team to the Cup title)then he goes up there. There is no way you can substatiate what you just said CDry. Am I wrong in assuming that you are too young to remember 86 or 93?

May 16th, 2002, 9:01:42 AM
It's weird with teh fans in NJ. The team is what 20 years old or something and being in the shadow of the Rangers and Flyers (most of North Jersey was Ranger fans and South Jersey Flyer fans) the fan base has had to grow from the kids up. Every year it gets better with fans in there 20's and 30's who grew up with the Devils sticking with them and more and more kids jumping on board.
Combine that with a crappy arena with no mass transit (we are getting a new arena in about 2-3 years that had train access) and $50 cheap seats ($65 in the playoffs) and it gets tricky so fill the place. In the past few years it has always been full in the 2nd and later rounds, just the first few games are slow.

25, not me, man. Back then I thought the guy was aWESOME. I remember when he was a Blue and he took T.O. to game 7. I was actually releived when wWendel Clark rung one off his cage. I was hoping he'd be out of the game. So you see, I've always thought he was phenomenal.
Take this.. in 1995 he played with the Las Vegas Thunder. He had a GAA of 1.99, with a save % of 0.929, in a league that's notorious for its high scoring games, but this guy was a machine.
Here's another cool stat...
P. Roy: 22 career playoff shutouts.
Cujo: 14. Not bad, eh? Especially when you consider the teams he's had in front of him. Edmonton, St. Louis' early years? Come on! The Leafs! Come on. We all know the Leafs haven't been a legit cup contender since the Gilmour-Andereychuk days. They're lacking a defenseman and one more pure goal scorer.
I'm not saying he's the greatest ever, but basketball had their top 50 where it was an honor. Hockek did it too. If you're tryig to tell me that he isn't one of the best goalies perhaps top 20) then you haven't watched this guy closely. He comes up big in big games like very few others.
Now, point two. You'd be crazy to put money on the Leafs to win the cup. They may get there this year but they'll get smokied, as would Carolina, IMO. As iut stands now, all my money would be on the Avs, but I had a feeling San Jose would win. I would have lost. I said that whoever won that series will win the cup and I still believe that. I think San Jose will take it next year though.

I am getting ready to walk over and watch game one at Gretzky's bar if I could find a seat. If not I will watch it at home. I think that we will get some players back to help us through the series.{Sundin,Pilar,Renberg, and hopefully Dmitry Yushkevich) I think that just the fact that we have players who have been to war(Corson, Roberts, Domi, McCabe) The intangibles this team has, You have players who will fight and not let the team lose. I am concerned about the BBC, but we have the definite edge in experience and goaltending. WE WILL COMPARE NOTES AFTER THE GAME.....................PEACE............GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!!
