i know most of you hate the leafs but what they did tonight was incredible. down 2-0 5 minutes in and comeback to win 4-3 is amazing. With the key injuries this team has had their will to win is astounding, whichever one of you that called Gary roberts a goon is just plain wrong!! The guy is carrying this team right now with 2 goals and 1 assist tonight and 15 points in the playoffs. if they can pull it out in game 7 i think they can go to the cup!!!

i have to agree billsman, detrot and colorado are easily the strongest outthere, but san jose is in good shape to go to the western finals right now. if they could somewhow pull an upset over detroit it could make the cup very interesting

Hey bduff,
Great game last night and a great win by the Leafs !! As far as credit goes I would say the credit goes to Pearson for his idiotic hit on Tie Domi .. what was he thinking ? That was the turning point in the game. His 5 minute major penalty is what brought the Leafs back in it. They scored twice on that power play to tie it up and that was the break they needed. I know what you mean about credit as well .. the Hurricanes have not been given a chance against New Jersey or Montreal yet managed to thouroughly beat Jersey and are on the verge of doing the same to Montreal. The amazing game was last Thursday night when Carolina trailed 3-0 in the 3rd period and scored 4 unaswered goals to in it in OT .. now THAT was amazing !!! Who knows buddy .. we may see a Canes-Leafs Finals afterall. Good thing Gary Roberts is playing his best hockey right now for you guys ... must have remembered some of the stuff he learned in Carolina LOL. And as far as the west goes I wouldnt say they are too tough .. thats the same stuff I heard earlier about Boston, Philly and New Jersey and they are all home playing golf. Any team can win on any night. Thats why they play the games !!!!

yeah the canes look good right now, i still want to see the candiens come back and win but it is good for hockey in carolina , i see they have tailgating and stuff going on there!! I like erik cole alot i think he will be the next Todd Bertuzzi

I give the LEafs credit they played well and CUjo came up big. I also think their a better team without Tucker he has really lost focus this series and has become a liability through all his penalties.

May 13th, 2002, 9:38:00 AM
your right player. tucker was already injured before the hit, i think he was truing to compensate for his injury by playing extra-aggresive!! i still can't believe you thought that hit was clean man!

Last night:
St. John's 4

Duff, this is a good topic. Would somebody PLEASE givs the Leafs some credit? They're playing on sheer guts and determination, like the Sabres did in '99. Even when they win it seems nobody (other than CBC) STILL won't mention the Leafs' play. The story ends up being Ottawa let themselves down or something. It's disgusting. How 'bout talking about Roberts and Cujo? Without these guys the Leafs would be out at Devil's Pulpit or Glen Abbey as I write this. But NOOOO, it's always Alfredsson and Lalime. That's all we hear.
Bottom line, most people hate the Leafs and won't say a single positive thing about them. In ESPN's post game remarks Melrose and idiot Barnaby blamed Ottawa ( the 5-minute major) for their own loss. How 'bout giving the Leafs some credit? From that point they still outscored them 2-1.
Good thread duff.
I will say this though: Engblom is about the only guy giving the Leafs some credit.

I give the Leafs credit both Mccauley and Roberts have played great and CuJo has got the job done. Saying all that Ottawa is the better team, but somehow the Leafs find a way to win.
Bduff-Tucker wasn't playing hurt he was just playing stupid. He played great against the Isles but then lost his focus it happened last year. He has to get his head on straight or the Leafs should ship him out in the off-season it's a blessing that he's not playing.

May 13th, 2002, 11:05:05 AM
he's not going anywhere and he was definitely hurt. they kept on asking him and quinn in interviews becasue tucker could barely lift his arms during practice, apparently the shoulder that he injured was already hurting. he had 60 points this year the guy is going nowhere
May 13th, 2002, 11:06:18 AM
Heart. plain and simple. And a goalie. One line and a goalie.
Cujo.... what can ya say about this guy? He's single handedly holding them in games and giving us a chance to win. And even when Ottawa does score Cujo has absolutely no chance. I've never seen so many goals scored that ring off the inside of the post.

Playing well but What was up with Ottawa’s third goal? The one by White! He cut through the Leaf defense like a hot knife through butter. How can you let somebody get through, regain possession, Take a shot, recover the rebound, and score? The D needs to toughen up. White should have been flat on his A$$ at the Blue line.

your totally right patrick, i can't criticize mccabe though the guy is playing 35 minutes a game. he was probably exhausted on that play, but your right there is no excuse for that.
May 13th, 2002, 11:47:02 AM
Often a D pairing gets split becuase neither guy knows what the other is doing, and before they know it, he's through.
Yes, it was disgusting though.

I think the hit was clean. The on-ice officials thought it was clean. The NHL Supervisor at the game (Dave Newell) thought it was clean. Replays show it was shoulder-to-shoulder, not in the back. Every analyst on every network said it was a tough play, but the right (non)call. The only people who think it wasn't clean are Leafs and Leaf fans.
Please, try to step back from the Torontocentric view of the universe for at least a few seconds. Take off the blue-n-white glasses. Put down the Molson and crullers.
I know it's a Toronto trait to whine; I suppose it's also one to whine when you have nothing to whine about... and probably also to never stop.

Ralonzo, there's your problem right there, listeing to hockey analysts on US networks. You keep listening to the biased ESPN jackasses and you'll continue to know the bare minimum. It was at he very least a boarding call. Tucker had yet to touch the puck.
bduff54
May 13th, 2002, 2:02:31 PM
ok ralonzo, you name me one credible nhl person who said that wasn't atleast a 2-minute boarding call??? colin campbell will even admit that!!! i am not saying it was worthy of suspension or even a 5 minute major but it was definitely boarding. so what is the shoulder now? the back of the shoulder blade? if this is accepted as a clean hit you can expect many broken necks in the near future!!!

That was a good game.. although Fishy didn't play... I actually like the Leafs and the Senators so either way I will be happy for someone.. Leafs played hard and deserved the win... I'm kind of glad they won because I bet on a game 7 so.. yeah.. good game! And a lot of my buddies would have been pissed to see the Leafs go down.. but they are still happy.. which is awesome.. and i'm happy so it all works out! :)

You are right... they aren't all cool and I know that.. duh... but the ones that I do know.. are awesome.. but yeah I never knew that about his father.. he seemed pretty normal to me... he's just passionate i guess... i dunno.. and no i wasnt at that practice but that doesnt mean anything.. a lot of players play because of their fathers..... that doesnt mean that he isn't happy... because he is..
