I can't believe well over month into it the NHL playoffs and there is still 2 rounds to go not including the current series that still have to end. For the NBA the Nets just defeated the Hornets and the next game is Wednesday, it is Sunday when I write this thread. Is it no wonder the ratings are down.
These two leagues should look at the NFL to show them how to run a real playoff schedule. Baseball also takes less then a month, but the whole league is a fraud and a waste of time, so there is no purpose in paying attantion to it.

The ratings are aweful this year because-
1) 2 New York area teams, Chicago, LA, Boston, and Philly (5 of the the top 6 markets with close to 30 Million viewers) were swept in the 1st round.
2) SJ/Oak/SF (5th) and Detroit (10th) are the only remaining top 10 TV markets remaining.
3) 3 Canadian teams in the final 8 are killing the ratings. No Name Carolina does not help either.
The NHL does stay faithful to it's 1 game every other niight formula. The NBA gets the ridiculous award for the never ending playoffs. It took them 2 full weeks to complete a 5 game opening round series. (Boston vs. Philly) They milk the playoffs for every weekend.

Only an Irishman would critisize and american for being bored with the NHL playoffs.
I think the NCAA hoop playoffs are the best playoffs in sports. Every game is a game 7.

I agree with bduff on this one. And DozerDog, I got your No Name Carolina right here ... whats the matter ? did they knock your team out of the playoffs ? If you dont like the NHL Playoffs .. dont watch !!

Sensitive are we Caniac. He's right about the ratings with the remaining teams. Show me anyone outside Carolina and Hartford who care the Whalers are still in the playoffs. They just wont draw ratings, neither will San Jose or Ottawa if either survives.

Ratings schmatings !!! I agree .. who outside their cities care about ratings ? Certainly not me. I am not sensitive to the ratings and could care less .. what bothers me is the fact that people are still bashing the Canes and calling them no names and no talent and saying they shouldnt be there. Say what you want but the Carolina Hurricanes are in the Eastern Conference Finals. Funny, I dont see you calling the Colorado Avalanche the "Nordiques".....

It was no knock on the NHL, overtime playoff games are very exciting but 2-3 months to complete the playoffs has to be fixed. The knock against the NBA is they need 3-4 days rest between games in their playoff schedule, I think the NHL players need it more cause they get the hell beaten out of them unlike basketball players. In conclussion, if the NHL, NBA and Major League Baseball playoffs had just one game between two teams like the NFL then it would be much more exciting then any game 7.

You are upset at 2 days between NBA games, yet the NBA should learn from the NFL which has 6 days between games.
Two reasons why the NFL and MLB are faster:
1. The NFL doesn't play series' because series are more wear and tear
2. The MLB plays everyday and players don't have any wear and tear
So, in conclusion, GET OVER IT!!!!!!

I wish the NHL playoffs lasted 4 months!!! Why not just knock the regular season down to 20 games for seating purposes...and then start the playoffs...all teams included!!! :D
