How do you think the D's performed tonight? I didn't think it was bad. They played a very solid game and if Kalinin keeps playing like this he should be resigned this off season.

Give them some time, they werent that bad tonight, but with more time the chemistry will build.

Kalinin ate minutes like they were candy, and it was his job to eat candy.

He was awesome, what can I say?

And if Lydman is ready to chip in offensively on a consistent basis, he may be able to absorb some of the assists that we'll obviously miss from Soups.

Lydmans 4 assists were a pleasant surprise. I am really encouraged with Kalinin and I hope he grows into a force on D.

So are Lydman and Paetsch going to be relied on to develop into the puck-carriers? As for Nate, this is now his chance to prove he belongs in the big club.

Our play in our own end has to be improved,we are way to loose.

our defense was mediocre tonite, had we been facing a team with 2 or 3 solid lines we would've been in trouble. if our defense doesn't improve, our playoff hopes are slim

At times it had that sloppy feel like the Philly game - too wet not dry enough.

I'm not going to say we aren't going to miss Campbell - but Kalinin saw a ton of PT, Lydman got the assists and Paetsch I saw bring the puck almost to the goaltenders doorstep a number of times.

Lydman may have had 4 assists but he was also totally unreliable in his own end.

We score more goals...shit like that doesn't matter or goes unnoticed.

But I dread the fact that we are going to be in tight games...

This is a soft defense that needs to tighten it up.

Lydman was really rough last night. He was the worst defenseman on the ice (for the Sabres).

The forwards are going to have to do a much better job at supporting the puck. This team is always on the transition, with forwards moving thru the neutral zone looking for that outlet pass. Lindy is going to have to start bringing these guys deeper in the zone, and they have to start winning battles along the half wall and move the puck out as a unit. I just don't see this defense as one that can go back, beat the forechecker and move the puck out quick. Pratt was an abomination last night, and each d paring struggled. This defense is definately not going to out physical anyone, so they are going to have to do it as a unit.

Personally I think they played like crap. How many goals did Nashville score because our defense was just sitting and watching them in front of the net and they picked up the rebounds. We need to get a body on those guys and get them away. I am not saying Campbell would make a difference but maybe a different pick up at the deadline would. If we would have played a team that could stop a shot we would have lost. Common petey scored that is saying something about the goalie.

The D is average at best. Hopefully, the get it together soon or we will have to score around 5 goals every game.
