WOW! That movie rocked! Action, action and more action from start to end. Willem Dafoe was brilliant as the Green Goblin as was Tobey Maguire as Spider-man. BRAVO!
A solid movie from start to end left you on the edge of your seat during most of it.

I took my 5 year old and he loved it, he didn't care for the kissing part, I have to work on that one with him, but he loved the action.
So the critic in me gives it two thumbs up, take the wife and kids, kick back for two hours and enjoy the ride. You'll be glad you did. :spiderman

Just saw it myself and totally agree! Spider-Man kicked ass!! Only complaint is the complaint I have with all the comic book hero movies, too much Peter Parker and not enough Spider-Man. There was still a ton of Spider-Man anyway and those scenes were in-friggin'-credible. I know it was primarily digital animation but it was very life-like and real...awesome job!!!
Two Shadowy Thumbs up here as well!!

I bet there will be a part 2. With the Green Goblins son vs Spidey!
Peter Parkers woman is HOT too!

That would be Kirsten Dunst Billsman. :) If you ever saw "Interview with a Vampire" (I didn't) she was the young girl who kissed Brad Pitt. She's been in a few movies. She's cute but I think Alicia Silverstone is much cuter. :)

I have never been more bored in a movie theater in my entire life.
And I wasn't the only one.
About 5 people walked out.
I probably would have too..but my friend seemed to be having a good time coloring his shoe with the pen he found on the floor.
Disapointing. Boring. Slow. Unfunny except for unintentional humor (the intentional stuff was just bad).
I wasn't expecting Citizen Kane...but I at least expected to be entertained.
Oh well.
The industry has become so vanilla that mediocrity and sometimes even worse can shine through the crap that it competes with.
Way to go.

I read that the part 2 is in the process, and the villin could be Octopus. Some people thought that the villin in this movie should have been Octopus and not the Green Goblin.
I'm anxious to watch it.

Fig, that would be cool. I went to the 1130 am show and it was packed, like 200 people in there.
When we left, there was a line already (50+ people) for the next show, 30 minutes later.
The morning show sold out, it opened at 10:00 am.
So if you go, give yourself a little time just in case.

bps21, too bad you didn't see the same one I did, it was pretty solid and entertaining. The computer generated images have never been better in a movie.
The audience all clapped when it was over too. But for every 1000 who liked it, there is always one that doesnt. :)

I will go... but next month :D
They always release movies one month later down here, sometimes I have to wait three months for a movie to get to Argentina.
But when the expectations of the movie is big if not great like Stars Wars Episode II they release them earlier.

What theater was sold out in the morning?
I went to the Transit Regal this morning and there were maybe 40 people.
35 of whom made it through the movie...only a handful of which walked out smiling.

The one out here. Its a 40 plex, top of the line. I feel sorry for those who left early. FYI, I hae yet to read a negative review on it. That has to tell you something.
Which part did you not like exactly? Give me detail.

Tobey Maguire was on Letterman last night and he said that he's already signed for 2 and 3.
Also, I read somewhere that Jennifer Connelly will be in the HULK. Nothing could be bad that has Jennifer Connelly in it.

Without spoiling anything for the people who haven't seen it...I'll just lay out a few general things that irked me.
1. the pacing. Backstory is fine. I like backstory. But it was presented in a very choppy manner with each concept contained in its own long segment. It was the first movie I've ever seen that I could pick out where the dvd chapters would all start.
2. the...comedy? camp humor is all hit or miss. the over the topness of Nichelson as the Joker was pretty good IMO. But the one liners from Goblin during and after the battle scenes were just a miss. They detracted from being able to take the movie seriousley...and the rest of the movie tried to be too serious to be taken as camp.
3. Tobey Maguire. His performance was pretty alright actually. But his facial expressions are a pain in my side. If he doesn't look like anything thats happening is important...why should I care.
4. The Green Goblin costume. This is purely a superficial reason...but metal?
5. The fight scenes. They were all way too short and the movie couldn't build up any tension between them.
6. The wrestling scene. funy story...I went and saw Bruce Cambell talk at UB in October and he told us about his role as the ring announcer in Spiderman. It turned out to be just as bad as I imagined.
SPOILER*****************
7. The....climax? so...the importance of his having to choose between MJ and the kids is rectified in the 2 seconds it takes for him to save everyone? ugh.
SPOILERS************
8. The fact that a good portion of the story structure is stolen....(quite poorly IMO) from the first Superman movie's structure. 1. origin. 2. Death of Loved one & growing used to powers. 3. Adjusting to life as a secret identity and hero. 4. final confrontations...and no easy romantic answers.
I know that they stayed rather faithful to the Spidey story...but the movie looks like a poor mans Superman.
SPOILER**************
9. MJ off of the bridge? as a comic fan...this bothers me a little. Since Gwen Stacy's death at the hands of the Goblin on the bridge is one of if not the signature moment in the Spiderman mythos. Again this is a vain choice...but c'mon.
and to make an even 10:
10. The script. Poor Dialogue all around. Was it supposed to be funny in a corny way? Were they supposed to be inside jokes that even an insider doesn't get? Why is the dramatic dialogue written and delivered just like comedic dialogue? And the action scenes...while separated by long lulls of poorly written storyline...were in themselves too long on non-action. What I mean is:
SPOILER*******
Even during said action scenes the focus of the scene is not on the action itself but on something else: MJ slipping from the balcony, the NY people throwing fruit at Goblin (don't get me started on how much of a groan this illicited).
That's it for now. If I had the movie here I could remember more. But then again I wouldn't watch it.

bps21, relax a little.
Spiderman was awesome. Theater was packed. Applause at the end. Everyone loved it. I Love Toby Maquire.
So it was formulaic? So the villian had bad lines? Just like the comic books I remember reading when I was a kid.

bps21 I don't know what you were watching, but you sound like a Trekie who can't stand a Star Trek movie because they weren't speaking the correct Klingon dialect or something. Relax man, you're holding on way too tight.

bps21,
You saw Bruce at UB? That's sounds cool. It's unfortunate that he got stuck in the B-movie rut, poor guy. Sam Raimi should have given him a bigger role in Spider Man.
My first born son will be named Ash. (Basically because my fiancee likes the name Ashton - but I'll tell everyone it's because of the movies.) That will not be any time soon though.

Why are you guys telling bps21 to relax? So he didn't like the movie, that's his opinion. We're not talking about a moral absolute like war crimes, it's entertainment. I didn't hear one word from him questioning the tastes of people who like it.
I'm extremely excited to see the movie myself, having been a big spidey fan for many years.

BTW - thanks bps for putting the word "spoiler" before your comments. That was considerate. I was afraid to read the thread just in case somebody let something slip (it's easy to do, sometimes even without people who saw the movie noticing).

Halbert, relax.
I'm telling bps21 to relax because "we're not talking about a moral absolute like war crimes, it's entertainment." Really, it's a movie about a super hero. It is what it is. I'm not questioning his tastes. I'm simply saying that I don't share them.
Go see the movie. It is very entertaining. Very cool.

I was a little grumpy this morning ...
I'm not much of a movie person and my wife is the opposite. Apparently my tastes are quite different than the average moviegoer because many of the popular mainstream movies I just don't really enjoy. I'm usually one of the only ones that does or doesn't like a particular movie - if I like something other people don't and vice versa. lol.
I guess I just know how bps21 feels. You'd think I'd be used to it by now. lol.
No worries.

Spider-Man was the greatest comic book movie of all time. People were going back in line to see it again after it ended. Special effects were great.
Plus, you gotta love the Hulk preview for next year. lol
DareDevil in January and The Hulk in June(next year). 2003 is gonna be sweet.

I didn't watch it yet, but I think that Batman I and X-Men were good movies too. Maybe Batman II was good but they tried to throw too much in one single movie.

Well Figurita20, those two were real good, but I give the edge to Spider-Man, cuz it was the closest to the comic(except for the organic webshooters that comic fanboys have been whining about for a year and a half, but they're never satisfied lol) and stayed truest to all the characters.
BTW, X2, the sequel to The X-Men is filming as well.

Hey...I was asked what my problem with the movie was and I answered.
Telling me to "relax" when my post is in reply to a question is absurd.
I DO like these kinds of movies...when they work.
Spiderman didn't IMO.
and Superman is the greatest comic book movie of all time.

And people DID walk out.
I really don't appreciate being called a liar.
I didn't attack your opinion of the movie...I simply gave mine.
Then posts like: "Sorry you didn't see the same movie I did", or "Relax", or "I don't beleive you when you say people walked out" are replied.
Thanks alot.
