It has been quite the weekend in the NHL, with some key games with many playoff implications, however; along with many devastating injuries and questionable calls. In a league that has quite the thorough evaluation and review (everything going to Toronto), is this acceptable? First, in the Detroit and Anaheim game on Sunday, the refs waved off a goal that was extremely obvious, in being a goal. Then on Tuesday, in the Carolina and Boston game, it was VERY obvious that the second goal was scored with a "kicking motion" off the skate. How can an organization such as the NHL, make these kinds of blunders?
In watching last night's game - there were MANY questionable calls, both for and against the Sabres.
Now, are there always going to be questionable calls, you bet. That's part of the game. But when an extensive review process is in place, they SHOULD get it right. We don't need to bring up past Sabres games, and blown calls.
Also, lets look at the injury side of it. We are seeing more and more injuries, and the NHL seems to do nothing about it, including minor fines and minimal suspensions. I don't have enough time to list them all, but I'm sure you all are aware.
What can/should the NHL do about this, if anything? Are these reasons, and many more, why the NHL can't seem to land a reputable TV contract with a TV station that EVERYONE gets in the U.S.? Is this why hockey can't seem to catch on in this sports crazed nation??
