How much is your limit to pay the guy?

Give him 7 years at 5 mil and he will sign. I wont go over 5, give him 7 or 8 years and lets get this done.

I doubt he would turn down a 7 year 35 mil deal.

Six years, $34 million. Preferably less.

I'd go as high as the 5.2-5.3 range.

At first I was going with a 4-4.5 a season. I have realized what an integral part of the team he is. 5-5.5 would be acceptable for me. 6 is still bullshit.

My maximum is still 5.5.

I could tolerate, but not be happy with, 5.75.

I would give him 5.5 million and some less humiliating commercials, maybe something with hemorrhoids ..

I picked 4.5 to 5.

5 million 5-7 years is what I am fine with.

I could live with 5.5...but it really bugs me...really.

I would not go over $5M for a #3 defenseman/PP specialist.

Come to think of it, why am I even considering paying $5M for a #3 defenseman?

This is really a loaded question. If the only option is to sign him or lose him to UFA, then it doesn't matter to me what the $$$ is. Pay him whatever it takes. They have to stop the bleeding of losing their top players with no compensation.

It's also difficult knowing that whatever the number is today, it would have been less in the beginning of the season. Probably much less. Probably sub $5 mil, which would have been very reasonable.

Bottom line, If they can get something good in a trade, they have to trade him. If they can't get anything good in a trade, they have to sign him.

Why would he of signed at the start of the season knowing full well he could cash in better either mid season or after the year is over and hit the FA market?

Because an injury at any point this year would leave him sitting in a class at ECC getting a start on his exciting career as a microwave repairman.

That obviously has been a concern of his based on the pussy way he has been playing.

It depends on the view of the cap - will it keep going up - how much the Sabres can afford for the entire payroll and the priorities for other players.

Keep Kalinin after this year? Campbell is more important.

How much will Miller command next year? Max, Timmy and Kotalik are UFA's in 09-10 also - and that should open up space because I can't see paying them tons.

Hank and Lydman in 10-11?

Really, Miller and Hank are the most important guys coming up. Lydman arguably more important to the team the Campbell. Make sure we can pay them when their contracts are up, and we don't have all kinds of cash tied up in two players (Vanek and Campbell).

(And as a matter of principle, Campbell shouldn't get paid more than Hecht, who is a better overall player.)

The problem is, if we sign BC for $5.5 or more, how do we keep RM next year? I would rather have RM then BC.
