View Full Version : This team has progressed greatly from the Boston game

In last Friday's loss to Boston, the Sabres blew a 2-0 lead in the third and lost the game in a shootout, throwing a point away. In Sunday's win over the Panthers, the Sabres blew another two-goal lead in the third but took a small step and won 5-3. Tonight's game in Ottawa, however, has the makings of an enormous step. Buffalo, like the prior two games, took a two-goal lead into the final 20 minutes, only this time it was against a cream-of-the-crop team. The Senators scored early in the third; a lesser, more mentally weak team would have wilted at that point. Contrarily, Buffalo immediately stepped right on the Senators' throats, made it 3-1 and swiftly popped the small doubt balloon that was beginning to inflate. What a performance; this club is on its way, folks.

I'm proud of them.

Ryan Miller is playing great hockey. And he stole that point against Boston.

The Sabres are stepping on the gas at the right time and they are improving. They were all over Ottawa. But something was weird with Ottawa tonight. I think that trade may have actually thrown most of those guys off of their game. At least temporarily. That, and Emery played like....well.....Emery.

Ottawa had a lot of nice hits. All of the top teams have good to excellent hitting. All that tells me is that Kaleta has to stay in the line up if Buffalo is to seriously contend. This Sabres team needs that element. If they can really play sound defense, and guys like Kaleta, Mair, Gaustad, and Spacek are seriously finishing their checks, then they could be even more equipped for the playoffs than last years edition of the Buffalo Sabres.

The Sabres were determined to win tonight. This is a highly skilled team that can impose their will on other teams and when done, can usually walk away with 2 pts.

Tonight's great win is only as good as the result in the next game. A loss to the leafs and tonight's game is a distant memory.

On its way to what? A Cup? On its way to what? You should be very proud they were a presidents trophy champ and now in sole possesion of 8th place. I figured out no matter what happens with this team if even they don't make the playoffs you'll be on here saying your proud of them. I love your posts I actually can't wait to see the one when they get knocked out in the first or second round that should be good. Sorry to rain on your cup parade C but your such a homer even when the team plays bad you defend them. I by no means am rooting against the Sabres I live in Buffalo but I also am a realist on what this team can do in the playoffs which by the way is a whole new animal as we all know. I just tend not to live in C fantasy land for 82 games with all his clones on this site. C your a joke I seriously almost piss my pants when I read your posts during the year please keep em coming!!!

Buffm I have no doubt your a seasoned Buffalo sports fan but by no means were you even close with that last post. You seem kind of bitter there,no one can ever claim that "C" isn't hard on the Sabres, when it calls for it.But I see no reason to knock him for being upbeat especially as the Sabres are playing their best hockey of the season and just at the right time I might add.So he has a little homer in him most of us here are homers, are we suppose to apologize for that? Hell no, we love our sports teams and we would be fools to apologize for being passionate."C" is a consumate hockey fan who is well spoken and really shows his passion for this hockey club,I can't knock him for that.
He is most deserving of a little respect and to go after him for being a fan is crazy. Not to many bigger fans then Teh C.

So if the Sabres make it to the 2nd round, that's a failure of a season? A season in which all 3 of their leaders from the years prior were all gone?

I see you're a big Bills fan, buffm....You of all people should be more than happy with a playoff birth and even a chance in the 2nd round for the Sabres.

So the 2nd round is as far as this team will get? Well, from where I was as a fan, not very long ago (I didn't think this team would even make the playoffs, and they still haven't earned a playoff birth) this team getting to the 2nd round would appease me when I look at the big picture. The big picture that doesn't include Drury, Briere, or Numminen anymore, a tough season in which the Sabres have been on the outside looking for the majority, and still trying to find their identity in the wake of their leaders bolting (save Numminen). You say 2nd round? I say terriffic. That means this team was just as good as last years all-star addition, but much younger, and a bit tougher. The near future looks very bright as long as the Campbell situation is resolved properly, and this team hits the 2nd round of the playoffs.

Tell me though, buffm. Who in this East will the Sabres lose too in the 2nd round of the playoffs? I'm curious.

I don't groan posts very often, but wow. Check your house for asbestos. Lead maybe.

BTW, when you contract you are, it's spelled you're. Usually I avoid giving grammar lessons on message boards, but that's like 3rd grade English. The next step is introducing you to commas.

If you really want to track the turnaround this year, you can go all the way back to the losing streak and the first game Kaleta played. Flame all you want, but it's true. Before Kaleta came up, the team was getting pushed around and beat up at every turn. For the most part, Kaleta has seriously toughened this team up.
